I bought this game today because the demo impressed me and it is only $24.96 USD. It is very similar to X3 but doesn't require a supercomputer to run, has small HDD footprint, supports TrackIR, has cockpits, has inertia modeled in flight physics engine (press spacebar for inertia mode),you can land on planets, and has MP too. They have other games in the series but Legends is the most recent. They have another one that is more of a combat sim using the same game engine. It's not state of the art graphics but they are decent and far better than BC3K and Starshatter. Especially considering this is a one man indie developer. You can buy it at Gamer's Gate or directly from the developer's site. Demo has 90 minutes of play and training missions don't count towards the 90 minutes. The demo is also the full game so if you buy from the developer you just enter a code to activate it.
Check it out if you haven't already.

I played the Avroch demo for a little while the other day--on my netbook at that. That's pretty nice. Better for the desktop, but it's impressive that it would run on there.
Either this game or Nikopol's demo interfered with another game I've been playing somehow, so I uninstalled before getting through much of the tutorial.

Am I correct that Legends is a sandbox world only, not story-driven?
The flight part and a good cockpit are something I've been wanting after I get done with a couple of other games. These 3 are definitely on my purchase list.

I bought this a few months ago, took a while off, and recently got back into it. It's relaxing to play, particularly with a HOTAS... just flying around friendly systems and scouting around. There's a lot of stuff to do but it isn't overwhelming.

MP unfortunately is hit-or-miss, most servers seem to be empty when I'm looking to play, and even then most folks are content to do their own thing.

I like evochron legends, I must admit i've gone into MP servers to find one or two people playing but not much more and didn't go back that's probably what happens to most other people. but the SP is great to play I find it relaxing for an hour or 2

Your right on this. Legends is a game that is totally open and uses roughly the same model as elite in that you are building wealth and rank in the game. yeah the MP community is that high and its a shame because it really is a great game and supported well.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if Evochron Renegades or Arvoch Conflict revolve around a story campaign?

I haven't played renegades but arvoch conflict has more of a story. But in general the developer likes to leave the game open to hope you want to play it kinda like elite. There is more on his website http://starwraith3dgames.home.att.net/arvoch/
