Just been following this thread on the Neoqb boards

http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=816&start=10

Made me think. I set my convergence to 50 meters and take 30% fuel.

What do you guys find that works for you?

So far I haven't played any MP, but against the AI I've always set gun convergence to 50m since I can't hit the broadside of a barn at longer ranges anyway. I've only set convergence to larger distances when attacking ground targets.

Full fuel load should give those planes ~ 1 1/2 hrs of flight time IIRC, so 30% should certainly be enough for your usual MP dogfight.

Hmmm, I should try less fuel I guess. I've been taking 50% in the Spad. Probably too much for the 10 minute rounds.

I haven't found a favored convergence yet, but in the Spad I seem to have the best luck in the 50-100m range. In the DVII, I like 100-150m.

The only MP experience I've had so far is Spad vs DVII deathmatch. Unless you find someone fixated on another target, I just don't seem to find many close-in opportunities vs the DVII. Ammo hasn't been a problem in that setup either, so I usually don't hesitate taking a chance on the snap shot.

Once you have selected you plane, click on the "Hanger" title at the bottom of the screen.

There you can chose your Convergence, fuel and plane skin.

I set mine to 100m and fuel to 50 percent. I tried the conv at 150 and it seems to me in close combat the bullets are all over the place...when I set it to 100 I have had much more engine explosions at close range so the bullets are definately doing the most damage.

I remember the il2 days when it was set to 300!! what a difference a few decades makes in air firepower!

Hmm, ive gone up to about 170 for convergance, maybe ill try going shorter and see how that works.
As for fuel, i never thought about lowering that for multi but i think i would try for about 50% myself.

Ive spent way to much time this last week trying to get a good joystick set up.

which plane are you using?? if you are using the spad make sure you have the mixture set to full and the thorttle is cut completely so you dont flood the engine..

Quickstart for Spad:
1. Min Throttle
2. Full Rich
3. Hit E
4. Open Radiator Full
5. Go!

For DVII, ignore all but 3 and 5. smile

Also: might be a good idea to "recharge" your guns immediately after engine start so they're ready to fire when you need them.

yeah DONT forget the radiator. you can start with the radiator closed but after about 5 minutes of max throttle that engine will overheat and conk out faster than a freshman sorority pledge at his first college party!

LOL, Gustang! However, the DVII was automix, so no need to mess around with fuel mixture on this bird.

In the usual 10 minute coop/dogfight that everyone hosts, I use less than 20% fuel.

Convergence is still an issue. I set it at 50, but I was watching some guy in a DVII de-wing about every plane he shot at from very long distances.

I don't know how he was doing it.

I'd hate to raise the spectre of aim bots already.

I've tried the convergence settings from one end to the other and can't tell much difference. I expected this though, as all the planes we have right now, their guns are not over 1ft apart from each other. The bullets are going to stay pretty close no matter the setting.

I have a feeling that with the SE5 that it will make a difference. The guns are pretty far apart on it.

As for fuel, I have been leaving it at 100% now. I had tried setting it lower, but I always had "bad luck" with that. I have also noticed that sometimes I will land after taking some damage and once I'm on the ground, I will see fuel leaking out.

The only time you have too much fuel is when you are on fire.

Just curious. In real life WWI, did they set convergence at all? As noted in another post, the MG's are set just a foot or two apart. Anyone know of any writings which discuss the matter?

I haven't seen anything that specifically references convergence but I did run across this from the Wikipedia account of Mick Mannock ...

Quote:
He was an excellent patrol leader; he took a very protective attitude toward his fliers and lectured them on survival and success. "Sight your own guns," he told them, "The armourer doesn't have to do the fighting."

Now obviously the term "sight your guns" is a bit vauge but it does indicate that they paid attention to it.

Surely there were some kinds of adjustments. I'm just guessing here, but probably the gun mounts had screws where you could adjust left/right up/down. It wouldn't have to be much.
