Crap Crap Crap.
I come home from vacation and I have ArmA 2 all loaded up:
I defragged my rig. Cleared all unnecessary items off my PC. Installed. Patched. & defragged again...
Ran the game on low settings, crashed. Ran the game on Medium/Normal settings, crashed. High, Crashed, Highest, beautiful crash.
-
Core Duo 2 -E6840 Gigabyte P35 (R) Mobo. 1gb OCZ 1600 DDR2 (Platinum, my other gig is bad, pos OCZ, never buying that sh*t again - I'll probably buy 4 gb soon.) BFG 8800GTS 640mb
I can run basically any other game without a damn issue, ArmA 2 is crashing like mad on me...Any recommendations?
I know the ram is low, but for right now, this should suffice!

Ok, so I updated DX, tried taking off AA FSAA, lowered Draw distance, put everything to regular, and removed Postprocess as well. Still crashed, even have a gfx anomaly, still. I'll try gfx card drivers next and see. I doubt it'll do any good. :|

Make sure you turn off AA and Ansio at the driver level, as well as in game. Also, try forcing V-sync off. I had anomalies with my ATI card and Arma tries to turn on V-sync unless you actually force it off and that solved my artifact issue. Also, the arma engine, IMHO, is nitpicky with the 8800 series cards (I just upgraded from an 8800 GTS), so try various past drivers and see if you get one that works.

A lot of errors, vbuffer creation issues, memory surface issues...I don't know what I can do with this, honestly, I see an issue with the gfx and memory, textures, and the sizing of them...Very odd.

I think its time I get a new video card, maybe an ATI...dare I say it...and some ram coming up. :|
See you guys in the field at some point.

Depends which card you were using. If it was the 320 mb one then that was the WORST CARD EVER MADE. I've had no problems with the 8800gt's 1 gb or 512 mb cards from evga, bfg, palit (really good cards) and xfx. Do try different drivers maybe the 182.5's but I've had no problems with the 186.18 so far and I run winxp 32 bit sp3. You know the old adage, " if it aint broke don't fix it "

I agree, oddly enough though, I have the 640mb from BFG, I was looking at other drivers, still having weird gfx anomalies, then black screen/crash. I lose power to my monitor, the game crashes my sys, but everything is "working".

Yeah, it is PC hungry, but from the looks of it, my CPU is actually handling the game fine - It seems to be something to do with Ram, and the vid-card. I've narrowed it down from my findings from the .rpt file, my gfx, & memory testing.
Its a damn riot how this game, of all the games is giving me a ration of sh*t. I am not frustrated, just ready to wait it out for my next move. I.E. Purchase an SLI ready board, get another 8800 gtx 640 and that 4gb of ram. Or, just get an ATI card, and never deal with nvidia ever again. (and of course purchase the ram.) but as of right now, spending money for ArmA 2 is ridiculous when it should be running on Normal settings with no problem.

I was referring to the GTS series of the 8800, not the GT or GTX. The GTS has either 320mb or 640mb of vid memory and also has a different RAMDAC I believe, I think it may use an earlier core as well. I had the 320mb, and agree..in terms of arma it was the worst, otherwise it served me well for the time I had it. I remember articles about how the core gpu in the GTS cards was an early version G92 maybe? In any case, the 8800 GT and GTX had different cores than the GTS (so I read)..and are actually pretty versatile..since they live on in the 9000 series nvidia cards, with more aggressive timings.

I didn't see the OP's driver version, so I'll suggest doing a thorough uninstall and putting the 182 WHQLs on. I have a mutant 8800GT and I had to roll back my drivers before I'd even see a splash screen.

Ah ha! Finally, figured it out, after spending a few days doing other stuff, I felt that it was finally time to test the crap out of the issues pending with ArmA 2 for me...
Its Ram, a lack thereof, due to the removal of my other three gb, the game has been #%&*$# due to lack of ram (caching). I checked my processes...My video card is running great, in fact, its temps are stable, the vmem is fine, and for christ sake, an 8800 gtx 640mb is a damn good card still, its basically a gx 260 (minus some of the new boosts...its the same damn thing..comon!) so yeah, once I plop about 4-6gb of ram in, I should be running this damn game on Normal settings w/o an issue.
