I was inspired by sdflyer to post some pictures form my flying career!

These were taken as we flew in to Milford Sounds, the most challenging airfield Ive had the chance to fly in to. Basically if you screw up you will end up as a picture frame on the side of the sound.

Getting ready to enter Milford Sound.

Milford Sound airport is just around the corner. The walls either side of us are several thousand feet high and there isnt enough room to make a 180 to get out if you get in to trouble.

Milford Sound Airport in all its 792m long glory, which is about 9000 feet too short!

Mitre Peak on the left.

When we spoke with the guys in the Tower they mentioned that they usually lose several aircraft a year to mishaps, ending up with a number of fatalaties, but most its only the GA pilots who are at risk (which was us!).

Amazing!! I have concluded that once Obama nationalizes health care and passes his global warming bill, I will start to save my money and move to New Zealand. God it that just beautiful.

Anybody know what it's like to live there?

Great pics Scott, thanks.

Are you in the UK now or back in NZ?

Countryman, the pace of life in NZ is very laid back. If you are a big city boy and used to doing everything at a hundred miles an hour then you may struggle in the smaller centres in NZ.

You better watch out Countryman, blaspheming the Messiah like that will get you in trouble! biggrin

20mm, Im in the UK. Was down Aus/NZ way in March for the airshow and to visit family. sdflyer got me enthused about digging out some of my old flying pics smile

Mate, I am already a white gun owning conservative. I am already on the 'List'. The Department of Homeland Security informed me of that a couple months when they released their potential domestic terrorist watch list. No worries. wink

Crikey, those are some dramatic shots. When you said "Milford", I thought you were talking about a small airfield in the UK, but when I saw the first photo, I thought, "wait a minute, that looks like Norway!". That looks like one heck of an approach!

Scott,
Hope you love the UK, but I have to believe some times you wish you were back in NZ.

Outstanding country. My neighbor's son lives there and they go visit him and his family once a year.

I begged to go with, but they wanted me to pay my way. Drat that luck.

That is just great. I would love to see a picture through the windshield on approach.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

Yes it is when 700 of those meters is in front of you. Another thing when there is 600m behind you though before the wheels touch the ground! biggrin

Nice pics, and boy would I Like to take the Cub in there!

Like Sim says, 700m? Enough to take off and land twice in the Cub biggrin

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!
