If not, you really really really should check them out here:

All Aircraft Arcade and be advised, they are not "arcade"...they are visual and sound and maps mods, etc

Here are some samples:

New Hellcat cockpit

Accurate Ki61 cockpit color

New Mossie cockpit

new P38J cockpit

and you wouldn't believe the sound of the TA-152...incredible!

DUDE!

Did you actually read SimHQ's policy on posting stuff about MODs?

After modifying the link to just color, it now meets the SimHQ test on discussing the mods.

The policy is far more permissive than restrictive, guys!

No linkie, no "it just ain't right to mod," or "if you ain't modding you're a loser" stuff, and one is okay with discussions.

While one will never see a review of an IL-2 mod on the front page of SimHQ, there's nothing stopping someone from writing one within the forums.

Depends on what you mean by 'lack of planes', but yeah, a few planes are being worked on, plus the new maps. We know have Aleutians, Solomons, Philippines, re-vamped Okinawa, Sakishima Gunto, Eastern New Guinea + New Briain coming soon, a Darwin map, Central China WIP, Formosa WIP, Thailand, Southern Burma...

Someone's working on new B-25s straffer versions, and there's been a boom in IJA/IJN planes projects. There's a new carrier take-off mod, additional ships... the PTO's finally starting to look decent enough.

Come on in, the water's fine wink

Cheers

Nico.

I don't think it's their "job" to fix anything, the modders bring new additions to the game as volunteers on a take-it-or-leave-it basis.

I still pine for an F4U-4, but things are coming along nicely. It looks like we'll soon be getting some late war Japanese AC.
Also numerous 3d glitches in the zero models have been fixed.

funny i dont remember demanding anything here, perhaps you should take a walk and cool your head before you post something like that again, as it would be clear the intent i had when i wrote fix.

What's a mod? Is there another version of IL-2 available? Do tell, please. Heaven knows this old trash liner needs some polishing!!

Schmidt, you're so crazy!

The IL-2: 1946 code was broken, and so folks have been making maps, repainting cockpits, reworking the sounds, and even adding flyable aircraft.

Quality runs from really very good to complete crap, as one would expect; but since it's free and quite voluntary, there's no room for complaining.

No and won't, time to bring in the new I think.

Good practice for SOW on the other hand.

I like some of these little goodies..

Some of the planes are ok.. but I find the stock planes pretty much adequate.. there are a few additions that asre nice though.. and some other stuff.. I tell ya though.. the sim takes quite a bit longer top load.. and if you really want to see the toll the mods take.. use the switcher to fly stock.. see how fast it loads and how much better it runs. I get decent frames etc with the mods so it isn't a big deal to me.. but I like to run stock just to keep the appreciation factor up.

Wish SimHQ would change the policy and have everything here in a sub il2 category, just filter out the cheating parts smile Thats a cool sign Bearcat. I miss the coops with you guys.

That's our virtual HQ... you can still hop into one of our coops.. I have been so busy lately I haven't been able to fly much.. maybe once or twice a week... as for the policy.. I think it is good that there are still restrictions... I think it shows a certain amount of respect for Oleg & 1C's original work... while at the same time being realistic about the evolution of the community.

[tangent]

The reason we don't have a sub forum is that it's super hard to police and often is a judgement call that would invariably be wrong.

For example, if someone writes:

I want to fly the PBY but it's not working for me, and the black ring on the water looks like crap.

Is it a mod question or a regular IL-2 question? Which sub-forum would it go into?

Plus I hate sub-forums. It's much easier to find an answer to a question when folks who are into the sim as a whole are looking at a thread rather than hoping someone will drill down into a forum-within-a-forum.

Putting a MOD: prefix in the title identifies the topic nicely.

[/tangent]

There's a lot of good and bad with the mods, depending on one's opinion of things. The 109 cockpit reworks are stunning, especially since the guy responsible also made a version without the picture of the girl stuck on the dash.

I really don't like pictures in cockpits - it's an immersion killer for me, as its either someone I don't know (and I wonder why it's there), or if I customize it to the wife's picture it's a reminder that I'm "playing that cute flying game with my friends" and I'm back to reality.

As an example.

I personally think that's a bit harsh. It may be your opinion that hours and hours of devotion to say an entire map of England to France, or like a new Lancaster, with every possible detail modeled to make that map or MOD is just "very good" is a little short sided. Many of the builders are and have devoted and sacrificed a large part of their lives to build a product as accurately as can, given what's available to them historically, for others to enjoy, selflessly. I will agree that not all meet expectations, but with the help and guidance of others that are willing to give up even more of their real lives they usually get ironed out. To just conclude that some are very good and you happen to like it gets your rating of "very good" and the ones that don't meet what you consider to be a valid MOD is black and white Dart, let the individual decide for themselves. How about really f*$!@'n excellent to 'needs work'..........cheers.. cheers
