this weekend Impulse has Sword of the Stars Ultimate edition on sale for 20 bucks, looks pretty good and the reviews seem favorable too...

It is great, at least I think so. Definitely one of my favorite games overall, and probably my favorite in its genre.

Also, Gamer's Gate is selling the Ultimate Collection for 14.95, but only for today. It's completely DRM free there, as well.

I picked it up on Impulse, downloaded & installed. Haven't played yet though, just browsing the manual so far.

Game store/downloader/manager... you can get Galciv 2, Sins/Solar Empire and a bunch of other stuff... kinda like Steam I guess but I don't have Steam so I'm not sure.

I'm glad I could help... it's one of my favorite games, and I'd like other people to have that experience. wink

One thing that some reviews knock Sword for is the GUI and I disagree with that assessment. Sword uses tabs and I thought that was great GUI design the very first time I started using it. If they want a bad GUI then they just need to load MOO3 up. MOO3 buried options ten layers deep.

No kidding. I could never even figure out if MOO3 was a game or just a series of menus. Tried several times to play it and ended up just throwing it in the trash... and I loved the first two MOO games.

For those still interested, Sword of the Stars Ultimate is 7.99 on Gamer's Gate until the 14th. Linky:

Also, a new micro-expansion will be released on the 17th, and it's already available for pre-order on Impulse and Gamer's Gate. Here's the Gamer's Gate link:

A great deal for one of the best combat oriented 4x games IMO.

Looking forward to the mini-expansion!

Just picked this up @ Steam...Ultimate + AGN for $15.99

As a fan of Galciv and Sins of a Solar Empire, I must say, I think I like this better.

You guys ever play SpaceEmpiresV? It got bad reviews when released but it is still being continually patched so you may want to give it a shot. It can be bought for cheap too. Very complex though so may turn some off.

i liked Space Empires 4 a lot but could never get into 5... the interface seemed to slow the game down and made it very hard to do anything. do you have any tips for setting the game up? i don't think i ever finished a game on SE5 but SE4 I have played hundreds of times.

My only tip is that sometimes the most difficult of tasks are the most rewarding in the end. wink
