I would like to hear you thoughts if you use this service. I been looking into it, looks like a good deal?

I would like to get the NetFlix Box for 99 bucks and just pay the 9 dollar monthly fee and rent most of the movies through the box?? or I will also use the mail order DVD but having the box sounds more convenient and cool wink

Ummm the online / view instantly selection is Very Very limited. You will be using the mail most of the time for new releases. Especially if you like the Blu-ray HD service. The online picture quality is not that good. Even with my internet which gives me 25 mbs download, the quality is below a regular DVD image and way below BR quality.

But the mail service works great. I do the take out 2 movies at a time....so if you mail it back today, they will get it next day, and they will mail you a new one either that day or following day, and you will get it back the next day....so turn around time is about 3 days.

Beware: if you go through movies too fast you'll be throttled.

My wife signed up for NetFlix several months ago. She has a service where she can rent three movies at a time. When you return one, they send another. So far there have been NO delays. As a matter of fact, we have been surprised at how fast the movies make it to us, because we really live out 'in the sticks'.

Our service also allows us to watch UNLIMITED movies on-line. I had to move my wife's computer into the living room and run cable to it (I don't like wireless). It works really well, and we only have a 768/512 DSL connection (the best that is available out where we live).

So far we have been very pleased with the service. It doesn't cost much and you aren't stuck watching the same four or five movies all month like you are with HBO, Cinemax, etc.

We use it. We like it and have never had any problem other than maybe 2-3 times a year getting a bad (scratched) disk.

We do the blueray option, which costs like $4/month extra.

I like the online option too. For example, tonight I'm on the road in Wichita (yuck). I can never sleep well in hotels.....So, I just pick out an online movie and fall asleep to it....

I have the one at a time service but I mainly just use it for the watch it now. While the selection is a lot more limited and there are no new releases they still ahve a huge number of watch it now movies.

When Blockbuster brought back the late fees, we switched to Netflix. We have been happy so far, but we only use the online service for cheesy/old movies. For example, we enjoyed the classic Ice Pirates online recently. It was an intellectually stimulating experience.

I have the 2 disc at a time plan with Blu-Ray. It's great. When I was laid off my wife and I elected to discontinue our satellite tv service but kept NetFlix going. I have to say I haven't missed the endless ads for Enzyte, Viagra etc etc. Watching tv shows on disc has been great (again, no ads) and we get to choose the shows we want to watch.

Airdrop01, I never even thought of watching a NetFlix movie while stuck in a hotel room duh. Next time I am on the road I'll do the same..

I have the "1 DVD at a time" service with the unlimited streaming online and I am extremely happy with the service. I save SO much more money renting movies than I did buying every new release. It may take a little longer to receive a new release, but that's fine by me. If I time it right, I can get about 2 DVDs a week, depending on the next movie in my que being available.

If I understand it correctly, the big class action lawsuit against Netflix occurred because Netflix was throttling frequent viewers but it was never DISCLOSED to the customers that Netflix was doing that. The throttling is still done but now its disclosed in the membership agreement.

As for me, I've used Netflix for 6 years now and I love it. I also get to rent all the bluray titles I want for a couple extra dollars more per month. It's a big money saver for me since I can just rent bluray titles that I like instead of having to buy them.

I use it and love it. Occasionally I get a damaged disk and all I do is report it and they send a replacement immediately.

Edit: Also want to mention that the selection is excellent. You will find lots of titles that are away from the mainstream. Foreign movies, musicals, operas, ballets, documentaries. Right now I'm due to get a multi-disk collection of World Cup highlights. I highly recommend Netflix. Besides, it is very easy to either suspend or cancel your service as needed.

Absolutely right about that. I've had a chance to see tons of foreign films from Netflix that otherwise I would have never had the chance to unless I bought it outright from some place online (assuming they even had it).

Ditto!
I was using the $5/month 1-DVD-at-a-time plan and it worked well (Turn in movie at post office monday - get next film on Wednesday). Then the lag time started increasing and it was "turn in movie on monday at post office - get movie by Saturday or following monday). The cheap plan hit my sweet spot of DVD viewing (4-8 DVDs/month). I complained to Netflix about the turnaround time (taking care not too accuse them of 'throttling') and there suggestions was to upgrade my plan...excellent, so I can pay more to view the same amount of DVDs/month! haha

So now I use the public library system - it is just like netflix except it is free...and you have to wait 1-2 weeks for a reserved movie...and you have to walk to the branch to pick it up...and you have to walk to the branch to drop it off...and AFAIK they do not provide BRDVDs...and the selection is limited...LOL
The upside is that I enjoy merely browsing through the big selection at the mainbranch downtown. it is amazing what good DVDs I stumble across and end up checking out.

I have not tried other pay services at this time.

If you get one of the more expensive plans or the download option from Netflix I bet you will be quite happy with the service!

smile

another happy customer, we started at 2 at a time but have cut down to 1 at a time. Even with kids we just don't watch that many movies.

We had 1 rental at a time with, I think, unlimited downloads to my XBox 360.

It's a good service that's affordable, compared to Premium Cable Channels.

Ultimately I was disappointed with the exceedingly lame selection of "watch now" movies and we cancelled the service altogether a couple of months ago.

If they improve the "watch now" options I might reconsider and try them again in the future. I'm constantly getting e-mails from them with cheaper prices than we were paying but, since we cancelled I've taken a pay-cut at work so I need to watch expenses for awhile.

I use to use them but I found out that I spent too much time on the couch.

One of the things I really liked was that if you cued up a series say like Dead Wood, they would send it in order. If one of the CDs were not available, they would send the first non-series movie I had up in the cue.
