If you're getting "cannot find d3dx9_2*.dll" OR SOME SUCH ERROR, this is because you do not have the latest version of DirectX installed.

So even if dxdiag says you have 9.0c, you still might not have the latest.

Be sure to upgrade your DirectX9.0c to the latest version.

A bit more on this. Microsoft has been steadily doing updates on version 9.0c Direct X. Latest is November 2008 (which 8 L.E.I.N.'s link leads to). So even though they kept the same name and version number, it's different. Suggest you download the "Redist" version and keep it in your backup files.
