Thx HK I missed that one.

Nice site BTW. Best place I've seen for SOW news without all the crud. Only hard news or debate. Thx for pulling it together. This sim is going to be THE sim.

Looks like Oleg has stolen Canons terrain from those screen shots. :-)

I don't put anything up there that is mere speculation...that way we can get a good picture of how the sim is really developing over time.

People complain about the lack of progress/info but when you look at it, there is a solid newsflow from 1C Maddox.

Let's call it alternating newsflow. But anyway, as said before, great to have a place where all the info is kept together. Thanks HeinKill smile

Unfortunately the links to the 1C site seem to be broken at the moment with pages just coming up saying 'server is down or busy'. If it continues I'll have to pull all those images - should have downloaded them for local hosting, sorry.

Don't worry HeinKill it's all coming together. If flying the SoW version of BoB is anything like flying Canon's BoB then SoW might even sell as a civilian flight-sim competitor to MSFS too, with WW2-England nostalgia taking the place of bloodlust and with Compans' textures replacing the pizza pie <runs away> Smile2

Basically all pictures in that article are taken from the 1C forums and probably from the 1946 Bonus DVD. Nothing new.

I just re-read it and (for a change) am completely confused by the detail Oleg provided on the campaign.

How are we supposed to read it when he says the player will not take part in missions, but in battles ie a series of missions 'played consecutively while you remain within the simulation'. Individual missions are being continuously generated by the campaign engine and the player can choose which mission to fly.

A CFS3 style campaign engine? If I remember CFS3 (it's been a while!) it generated a range of missions along the front line and the player could choose which to fly.

Or BOB2, where you watch the battle unfold in real time on the 2D campaign map and can frag in and out of individual units/sorties?

Ah, the more he tells us, the less we know!

I read the article to mean the battle will be ongoing. Let say you attack a group of bombers as they cross the channel on the way to London. You could then land, refuel, rearm, and attack the same damaged formation of bombers as they are returning from their attack on London. I believe there will be animated ground crew so there will be an option to taxi to the turnaround hardstand for R&R. The RAF pilots flew multiple daily missions so the daily battle could last many missions with battle damage sustained from mission to mission.

Ah, as for BobII, except it would need to simulate repair time for minor battle damage/engine damage. Prob with BoBII is that you can land, refuel and rearm, but not repair any eg engine damage without leaving the aircraft and returning to the campaign screen. That would be a nice feature if true.

Simulateing Refueling and Rearming is the most contentious issue. There are those that say noone would want to wait for their aircraft to be rearmed and refueled so don't bother modeling it. I would like to see it as an OPTION with a further option to set the wait time to suit your personal or server game play. As for repair time, it would depend on the damage sustained. If it could be repaired in the time of refueling and rearming no problem. If the damage is major then jumping into another aircraft, if its available could be an option or ending the mission.

Having some sort of RRR procedure in game would be a huge immersion factor for most, especially if the developers planned simulated ground crew makes it into the game.

For online multiplayer, realistic rearm/refuel time is a great opportunity to take a piss too. biggrin

Personally I prefer to keep an empty orange juice bottle under my computer desk so I don't need to get up in the middle of the action.

I tried a big coke bottle but the neck on them mothers is too narrow and you don't want to have to buy new carpet all the time.

After much trial and error, it is orange juice bottles I've settled on.

They also come in handy at rock concerts or big sports events where the toilets are impossible to get to or the queue too long. My wife tells me they are also useful for ladies on long train trips through Eastern Europe but that is probably enough said about that.
