Quote:
Italian carmaker Fiat and US giant Chrysler have agreed to create a global strategic alliance, the companies said in a statement.

Under the terms of the deal, Fiat will get a 35% stake in Chrysler. In return, the US firm will get access to Fiat's fuel-efficient vehicle technologies.

I guess this only shows how far behind the US car industry when it comes to fuel efficient technologies and how desperate it is to catch up.

Chrysler used to be owned by a Euro auto maker (Mercedes Benz) so this news doesn't surprise me in any way.

Nope, but I heard someone mention the new, fuel-efficient 2009 Challenger 1.4 turbo diesel wink

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

this is interesting because a large chunk of Ford Europe's smaller cars are using FIAT engines (e.g. Fiesta) or being built in FIAT plants (Ka).

wonder how Ford is going to view this ...

I can see the advantage. Now it's a race to see if the transmission blows up before the car rusts to the ground.

Fiat is not the backwards crappy car company everyone in north america thinks it is.

Fiat has been producing some pretty nice vehicles especially in the last decade.

Longbow: we know, we're just having a bit of fun. Most people's memory of Fiat in the states are the rusty econoboxes from the late 70's.

It's sad that of the big three, I've always considered the Chrysler products to be the best of the lot.

Fiats in the US were crap.
