Not if you live in London biggrin

I love the snow but we rarely get it and yes, it's very pretty.

it's good because I am inside enjoying a nice view. If I was working outside as in the old days it would be ugly, everything is relative.

There is nothing prettier than when the trees are covered in freezing rain ( we used to call it "glitter" when we were kids ) just before they crack off and crash to the ground.

I just don't see any beauty in winter anymore. I hate the cold, the snow , the slush, the shovelling ....but I'm too dumb and stubborn to move to where it's warm biggrin

besides....then I would have one less thing to complain about biggrin

Nice pic Hank, that is pretty.

The other thing about snow is the quiet. I'd go outside to shovel the walks and driveway and it would be so quiet.

Another thing snow does is make everything look "clean". At least until it gets plowed up into those gross dirty piles next to the road. Waking up and seeing the undisturbed snow is just very calming.

It is noticeably quieter when it's snowing, I guess the flakes absorb the sound...that is until the plow comes flying down the street at 1 A.M as it did last night with blade and chains bouncing around on the almost dry streets since it had just started snowing.

That is the view out of our back door, a rarity in this area since we are only 9 miles from the George Washington bridge and New York City.

This area was all woods and farm land 60 years ago and the section between our street and the one behind us is a total of 700 feet apart with the lots being 350 deep. The property was made part of the building lots because the county had planned to build a park South of us and this wooded area and it's two streams would have been made part of it through condemnation. The park was built much further South and we kept the property. We go back to the black tree trunks in the middle which is 90' on the other side of a brook which is the dark line running horizontally across the photo.

I have the original prospectus on the development and the deep plots were sold as "mini-farms" for those who wanted to plant a crop, possibly to help pay the $17.00 monthly FHA insured mortgage . In 1939 the 800 sq.ft. two bedroom colonials with 1 bath and attached garage went for $3900.00 with 10% down in cash. The American dream at the end of the depression.

The air is fresh and clean, the bugs are gone, but I'm running out of room to throw the snow.

"Is that a pool peeking from beneath that ice?!"

Good eye Bird, nothing fancy, 16x36 vinyl liner that works well in better weather.

Uther you are in one of the most beautiful areas of NY State that I have enjoyed visiting in Summer and Fall but you are still close enough to the lake to catch the same effect that turns Buffalo and Cleveland into good places to stay away from in Winter. And then Spring comes along...be patient it can't last forever.

Well Hank about a week ago as we had snowfall after snow fall I had a big sheet of plywood, some aluminium pipe, some bailing wire together all assembled. Fortunately, I had drank a bit to much stoli and wandered off. But yes, the thought has crossed my mind. cheers

Years ago I tried pushing snow with a board on the front bumper of a Chevy Citation which was the first front wheel drive car I ever had, I couldn't get over the control and traction and it worked until the snow piled up too high in front...come to think of it I might have had too much potato juice at the time too but I did not get too far out of the driveway.

Thanks for the compliment Corsair. Over the many years we have been here I have had fill brought in to dry up wet conditions, straightened out the brook flow(with pick and shovel), and generally transformed the land to being the way we want it so it can be enjoyed. I have a bench at the brook and it becomes my favorite spot in the Summer since it is about 5-8 degrees cooler than up top. My grandkids wade and fish for minnows in the brook and my wife searches the ever changing rock supply for fossils and interesting stones, always on the prowl for Indian artifacts.

Both of us being city kids we are happy with our little piece of the country. Now bubba, he has a large piece of British Columbia as his yard.
