Hi all,

Some of my best simming memories are of playing Longbow 2 way back when, so I'm thrilled to see that Black Shark has finally made it!

However, nowadays I find myself without a full HOTAS, just a Saitek Cyborg 3D stick with the twist for a rudder. I can't afford a real control set-up right now, and I'm wondering if BS will be flyable at full realism with just my stick. Would I be wasting my time?

Not really needed but, you may find yourself pressing a lot of keys on the keyboard. Those you don't assign to your stick that is.

I find that I have the weapons configured and I use the mouse and click able cockpit for the rest. So in my mind a cyborg would be more then enough to get yea going. However that is just my opinion.

If you have become quite quite comfortable with the joystick in other sims I can't imagine you having a difficult time in BS. With that said a non-HOTAS setup really increases your workload; I would stick with the Cyborg for now (what choice do you have anyway? Money is tight.) and pick up a budget HOTAS (e.g. X-52) when you have the money.

I fly BS with a Cyborg 3D stick, a trackIR and lots of keyboard presses (and mouse presses!).

It works just fine for low workload situations (I am just getting into the weapons employments and still mostly setup simple "go blow up this truck park" missions. It is making me really want a full HOTAS setup but you can play it and have great enjoyment.

Remember that it is a true helo sim so you only need to move your stick about 1/2 inch most of the time <G>

If you are a little handy with your hands and a soldering tool you can always build a throttle and rudder controls yourself with scrap wood and a three pots. You just open the Cyborg and reroute the pot connections to your controls. Use Xpadder to assign keystrokes to the Cyborg 3d if your current operating system does not support Saitek programming software.

A free voice command program might also help out. I think there is one called "Shoot" or something like that. I used to do that with EECH when I had only a MS Sidewinder stick.

The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

Clickable cockpit is really an important "plus" for a flight sim...

IMO Black Shark is well playable without a full HOTAS setup. I did so with a MSFF2 and was quite happy. OTOH I consider a TrackIR pretty much a must.
