So you press ctrl F2 for next enemy plane, is there a key bind for the enemy ground targets? There are so many objects and I never get to see them for more than a millisecond.

Yep. I've redefined my keys so many times I'm afraid to state which one it is by default.

Default keys: F5 to padlock enemy ground targets from within the cockpit; F7 to padlock enemy ground from an external view. Shift-F5 and shift-F7 to padlock friendly ground units.

Oh, ok, what a shame, so only way to get a good look at them is the object viewer.

Sort of ... With padlock on. Padlock the ground target from inside the pit, then use your next/previous keys to cycle through the contacts. Doesn't give the same up-close view of the item as with the F2 keys though.

Yeah, I like external views, there is so much to look at in this Sim, they must have spent hours making all those models and you don't really get to see them.

Do I understand correctly that once you have something padlocked, and then switch to an non padlocked view there is no way to switch back to the padlock you had, you basically are starting over again and so may end up with a different plane or ground object padlocked?

As Dart said: Correct. You will generally padlock first whatever target is closest to you, and within your field of view.
