First impression? Boy were these things slow.
I suppose its to be expected trying to push all this armour around with the engine from a London Routemaster in the back but it does take some getting used to. Impressive driving model though. Anyone managed to beat the other tank in the race during the driving tutorial? I managed to stay close on his heels until the minefield. Oh and he's cheating in the obstacle course
Undercarriage lever a bit sticky was it, Sir?

Ok, bought the game from local game store a few days ago. Installation, a breeze. Setup, a breeze and runs VERY well at 1900x1200. Only gripe is the sound so far. It is hard to tell if you are hit or someone else and the members keep yelling "We are hit!" even there is not a single enemy anymore. Otherwise nice game and modding will for sure add a lot to this title + the official add ons. So I am a happy camper even there are glitches here and there, but nothing show stopping IMO. And this game has run without a single crash or such, even after a bit of playing. Thumbs up for that!

Great gem we have here, too bad its not MP! Yeah, multiplayer would just about put the icing on the cake for this one.

My biggest gripe is the AI route planning.
They seem to have 'Gomer Pyles' as their drivers.
I cant count how many times Ive seen tanks drive right into the river instead of using the bridge just 50 meters away.

I havne't seen that "river thing" as yet myself but I have seen some other screw ups in terms of driving. I have found it best to give short orders to my AI battlegroup. Don't try and send them on long routes but keep it short and simple. Their pathfinding seems to work out much better then.

I find that using the "mission specicic" waypoints also works quite well. Just select the waypoint marker, then press 8 to send your tank on its way. With the rest of the squad set to "Do as I do", they usually get on their way without any incidents.
Has anyone else noticed that the target direction callouts are reversed? 180 is straight ahead and 90 is left. Doesnt' happen all the time, however.

Hit a bit of a problem now.
On the gunnery tutorial I can't load rounds into the main gun, the mg works fine but when I'm asked to press 5 to select the practice round then R to load it I press R but nothing happens. The icon on the lower rhs of the screen goes red but the round never gets loaded. The ammo icon on the lhs has a 0 next to seemingly meaning I have no ammo?
Any pointers?

Any pointers? I had this too. Try resetting the keyboard commands back to default. That worked for me.

Tried the keyboard thing, still no go It seems like the mission has been set up with no ammo, probably a bug.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out where the enemy is based on crew communications. 180 from where? 90 degrees from where? I wonder if any of the developers or former beta testers could point out how to read these communications?

Thanks, with the help of that thread I've managed to get the mission working now. I had full realism set but with the auto gearbox and track replacement options ticked. With them ticked the AI seemed unable to drive the tank, I thought there was something wrong as the text said my driver was moving to a suitable firing position but the tank wasn't moving It allowed me to continue and complete the mg section of the training though. Was this game playtested at all before release? I've also just switched to external view to see my driver seemingly falling through the 3D model and onto the ground.

Concerning a direction on the North. Was this game playtested at all before release?
yep I've also just switched to external view to see my driver seemingly falling through the 3D model and onto the ground.
I don't understand. Please show screen.

I don't understand. Please show screen. When I switched to external view and panned round to the front of the tank the view port was open and the driver had his head out. As the tank rolled forward over some uneven ground its seemed to leave him behind, he appeared to be falling through the bottom of the vehicle. Sorry I don't have a screenie, I can only try to decribe what I saw. There are a lot of graphical clipping problems on external view, foliage poking through the tanks, water going through the tanks, that sort of thing.

Concerning a direction on the North. And that's hardly intuitive when the player is trying to find out from which direction an enemy contact is coming. The bearing call-out should always be relative to the front of the tank, not some point on the map. Not to mention that "compass" is hardly intuitive, either.

Yes, basically it so, but it complicates orientation about a position of the target for inexperienced people and target designation for AI if the tank actively maneuvers. Theres a COMPASS ... ?
