In an old finnish book "our time by pictures" there is a pic of Churchill inspecting invasion force AAA0 (american style helmets bearing abbreviation AAA0, meaning "anywhere anytime anyhow" the zero is supposed to say that screw the rest).

There's nothing on these troops in google, has anybody heard anything of them?

Too bad I don't have a scanner...

That would be the 39th Infantry Regiment.

(I was FO for 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 1/39 in Baumholder from 1987 to 1989, and was shocked to see a female trainee hanging out in front of a AAA-O at Fort Jackson.)

Edit:

Obligatory Wiki Link:

The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events.

Way off topic -sue me- but Dart's Wiki link got me looking for some of my own regimental histories on Wiki ...

  • 3rd Squadron, 5th Cavalry Regiment (Air Assault), 9th Infantry Division (Ft. Lewis, Wa., '82-'83) : LINK
  • 4th Battalion, 325th Infantry Regiment (Airborne), Regimental Airborne Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division (Vicenza, Italy, '84) : LINK
  • 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment (Mechanized), 3rd Infantry Division (Aschaffenburg Am Main, (West) Germany, '84-'86) : LINK (met my wife -a Virginia girl- while stationed here ... almost 22 years of marriage since then have elapsed!)

... made for an interesting journey down memory lane.
