You can also set any NPC (quest or companion) to be invincible with their ID codes. If they take enough damage to be killed, they lie there unconscious for a moment, and then are revived. The console command is "setessential [NPC ID] 1". To turn off the invincibility just reverse the code to read "setessential [NPC ID] 0". Below is a selection of NPC ID codes, there are extensive lists of these ID codes available on the interweb.

Fawkes: 0003D34E
Seargeant RL-3 : 00094867
Charon: 000156f6
Star Paladin Cross: 000156e5
Jericho: 00000a71
Sydney: 00003a22
Clover: 000156a2
Butch: 00027f65
Dogmeat: 0006a772

So in order to make, say, Dogmeat invincible, open the console (~) and type in...

setessential 0006a772 1

Reverse dogmeat's invincibility by opening the console (~) and type in...

setessential 0006a772 0

Does that carry through saved games or has to be done each time you load up

Yes it does. The save will be whatever the last setessential command was (1 or 0). I always keep Dogmeat, Walter, and that ghoul with the Sugar Bombs quest set to invincible.

The scoped .44 magnum and Lincoln Repeater both use .44 ammo

You should be able to find the scoped .44 in the wastes and you'll find Lincoln's repeater in the Lincoln memorial. It's a pretty nice rifle and can be repaired using standard hunting rifles.

I think that's one place to find it, but it is also many other places too...it is random loot found in containers and on dead enemies. It can also be found at various traders from time to time. It is very deadly at a good range when repaired to near 100% condition. There is a mod to remove the scope so you can go all Dirty Harry with it ("...you feel lucky today, punk..."), and there is also a custom weapon mod for a .44 cal Desert Eagle and a .50 cal Desert Dragon. The mods can be found here under the weapons category.

Yes I think you can find it there. I've just found it as random loot or laying around while exploring so far.

You can also buy them from various retailers from time to time. Shrapnel had two for sale in Rivet City on my last visit. I think it's a random thing and they won't always have them in stock but I'd check out traders and shops on your travels.

Did anyone post this prank call from a radio call-in show?

You have got to listen to it, absolutely hillarious!
