1st: When could we expect release from this EAW.exe?

2nd: Is there any skinner already working on some fighters set with at least 4 airplanes from the same unit but with different markings inside each set?

Cheers, Olivier

The call has gone out for more skins, Doc, and some are on the way.
Since this Gibbs/Aldo improvement has just been completed and is still testing for glitches, we can't expect instant response.
As for when...
Giving away inside info, but Mr. Jelly has taken on the job of corraling the updates to 1.28 patch like the multi-skins. As we know, he just faced a health crisis.
And the busy little beavers are still adding mods for him to look at.
So, better throw some good wishes for his speedy return to good spirits. Like Holiday spirits.
And get your own skins picked out.

Progress report!
I was able to get Aldo (Brit44) to add the latest multiskin and 24 bit stuff tho the files I have been using and as a result compile a test exe for the group to try with a heap of new stuff in it.
Pobs and I flew online with it tonight plus the P51D multiskins loaded. We had a great mission- an escort of B17s in P51Ds, and we did get different skins, Pobs, the host, in the first green one, and me #2 in the second silver one. Heaps of planes in the air at 30000 feet so contrails everywhere.
I bailed out returning home as I blew my engine, and respawned in a different pony. It was my first online game since hospital and I did manage to down a 109G.
It is great to know that the multiskins are working well online too smile
I think Pobs got some good screenies so look out for them.

Hello all...

Been out of the game for a while due to work. Would like to know where I could get this experimental add on. I have 1.28 installed. This would be a great addition to my movies I create adding much more realism to them.

Let me know...

Cheers & S!

Wudy, you mean because the aileron area is differently skinned and do I see the border of a glass panel...do I see what you see or do you mean what I see - or so dizzy

Anyway - those different-numbered Messerschmitts bring the tears to my eyes. All I ever wanted from EAW whoohoo

Greetings

Fran

Well, Fran, if you check the other pics from Pobs, above, you will see no wings viewed from the cockpit.
A little glitch that Jel was having trying to concatenate the exe's.
Now fixed, obviously.

The 109's numbers, BTW, were the first "proof of concept" that the multi-skins are indeed possible. Once considered impossible.
This little advance puts EAW in the forefront of at least ONE sim area-- and it uses mid-range if not low-range capability computers while remaining backward compatible (BC). As a kind of midwife helping Gibbon and Brit44 birth this baby, I can say, "Remarkable". thumbsup

I have further developed a multiskin manager so that it uses subfolders

Opening screen

I have two folders in the ETO folder so I clicked on it- I must make the text colour change to show it was clicked on:

Edit: I have now fixed this as you can see in the replacement screenie.

109G displayed and clicking in the picture would load it- but I did not:

P51D dislpayed and this time the I clicked on the picture and selected it:

Note how the "P51DMS" label is no longer enabled as it has been loaded:

Here's the directory with the P51D files loaded:

I added one of Rauch's skinfolders (not multiskin) to make sure all the folders are displayed for selection when there is a larger number of them. If necessary multiple columns are used and in this case there were just enough to fit in the first column.
It also allowed me to check the routine which runs when you select a folder which does not contain a picture:

wink Jel

Hi Jel,

Two questions:

* Did this manager automaticaly add the 01, 02, 03 suffix?

* Is our usual OAWselector unable to select and then load a full squadron folder?

Hi Doc.

Jelly is working on a tool that will direct the exe to the skins, rather than moving the skins to the EAW folder.

The idea is to keep disk fragmentation to a minimum, because of the increased size of Multi Skin file sets.

I hope that's it in a nutshell. smile

It won't be able to rename files, as far as I know. There is a tool written for that, but it's in testing, or rather I should say, I'm testing it! biggrin

Hi,

thats not right, the tool is able to place the files into the EAW root, without to move them, just by changing the directory.

This system work very fast and wont defrag the HD´s, additionally all files can be "read only" what will protect them and if there are already files with the same name inside the EAW root, the tool wont overwrite them.

The problem with a normal addon manager is that we in theory have to load 48 skins per slot(extrasquad 3 provide up to 3 x 16 fighters).

To load a "normal"(no extra squad) complete skin set, we already have to load 20 x 16 skins + the high number of bomber skins(around 150 skins). Of course not always a full skin need to be loaded, probably often only the fuselage files are needed, but for WWI or the particular very unique german skins, the size of a complete skin set can have a size of +60 MB.

To load such a amount of possible different skins would last ages and would defrag our HD´s badly.

The good thing is: With this system we can use our current stups rather easy.

Greetings,

Knegel

This is some skinsby Pete Richter, from the 334th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, Debden, UK, 1943, I'm working on, setting up as a skin set.

It's looking like the 3dz's will need some attention, as they all have RS or Normals problems. frown
