Hi Guys,

Just saw this entry from LOFT over on the ROF blog:

1) Yes, we are preparing full missions’editor for the release. It will be available soon, that’s all I can say by now 2) Free: Newport 28, Albatros D5. Also you will be able to get two new planes at the day of release for additional payment - Spad XIII, Fokker DVII. Further we plan to let out 1-2 new planes in a month (preliminary) 3) We do our best to make game ready by 2008. Under specific circumstances it may be ready by first quarter 2009.

Well wad'ya know!

Indeed Fly...wad'ya know!!
Made me smile on a dull autumn day in London.
Mission editor, Neiuport 28 and Alb D5 included in the release and the option to buy the Spad and DVII on the day. The fact that the release is still being aimed at 2008 and early 2009 if things don't go to plan is very encouraging too.

Thanks for the heads up \:\)

Great news...the developers do listen.

Good news! Glad to hear that release date is on track too, as I need to buy a new PC and didn't want to splash the cash too early.
Not too much for us RAF types to get our teeth into in the first four a/c, so I think I'll concentrate on flying the Albatros and Fokker - that way I'll know how to beat them when I get my Se.5 and Camel! ;\)

Thanks, once again, for the heads-up FR.

Might be deja vu but anyway thanks very much for listening RoF developers, an FMB is absolutely essential to our flightplans. I won't mind paying extra for it

the gradual release of planes makes sense in many ways: economically for sure, but also as a way to keep interest high in the sim over time. Great!

Ilya Mourometz in 20015! Woohoo!

While this is all good news, I still can't get my head around this :

2) Free: Newport 28, Albatros D5. Also you will be able to get two new planes at the day of release for additional payment - Spad XIII, Fokker DVII

Why not just make the initial release contain all 4 a/c and charge the higher price .. I mean, who's NOT going to buy the extra planes ? screwy

Well, it's a good way to test the interest in pay-per-plane.

What only 4 planes and no Dr1, looks to me very boring.

Those who try out the sim for a couple of hours and find out it is not for them. Makes perfect sense to me.

Also, it is good for Neoqb to have a lot of customers immediately install the new-planes-downloading-mechanism. Will make it easier to sell the ones coming later...

Did you even bother reading the distribution plan? - No? - I thought not.

More planes will come out continously. Not the first time for a sim, and a pretty good concept, just look at Condor: http://www.condorsoaring.com/pp.htm

Say the first release was a Camel and a DR1 with a SpadXIII and DVII as addons.
I might have considered giving the Spad a miss, never liked the Spuds.....

.....what am I saying of course I would have, I'm having it all...but I still don't like the Spuds smile

As I understood it from the initial suggestion, there will be two flyable planes (plus the other two optional ones) - but lots of other non-flyable types. I don't think we will be in a sim world inhabited only by two types of plane. Hope not, anyway!

Nothing wrong in principle with having a small number of flyable types - think Falcon 4.0, which only had one. Though personally I'm longing for a Sopwith Camel or (preferably) Pup.

That's correct Mahoney.

In fact we've even seen the Sopwith Camel and Fokker Triplane flying in a number of videos for this project for quite a long time now (some apparently have been AWOL on this project until lately).

One of my favorite videos, and it's an early one that's a couple of years old now, before the engine exhaust effects, grass effects, directional lighting effects, cloud effects, etc. were even implemented shows the Camel's start up and take off. Still, the physics were spot on from the beginning (courtesy of Dave Calhoun for his DivX video hosting here):
