I am sure you can see any small single engine plane at more than two miles against a blue sky or white clouds. Am I right?

You should be able to see at that distance, yes. Even 3 to 4

2 miles (international mile of 5,280 feet) is about 3219 meters.. yes I would spot an unobstructed singel engine aircraft against a ligth blue or white background, no problems IRL. But if you are asking about IL2 I don't think it's as easy.. I don't know if it's my hardware that is crap or if it's the game rendering etc. but I have difficulty spotting AC from below.

I have spent a fair amount of time flying (as a pasenger) the coast of Labrador in twin and single Otters and Beavers. I wear glasses and have had no issues spoting small planes or helicopters at 2 miles or more. LOng distance vison in IL-2 has always been an issue.

I fly some too, and I was shocked at how hard a plane is to see coming right at you at the same altitude. If they are a little higher or lower no problem, but head on ain't so easy.

Seeing things in Il-2 skies comes in two parts

There's the tininess, the pixelarity

And there's the rather more naughty cloaking, the clipping plane. Object popping.

I mention this because the clipping plane distance is currently under discussion in the Painting By Numbers: Colouring Crayons For Dummies forum elsewhere

I think he meant to say the tiny pixies, naughty garden gnomes, flipping planes and objects pooping.

Well, just how do you all hope that SOW will be different. Is this a big issue or wish for things to be different in SOW. I kind of thought that setting the resolution down to 800x600 would do the trick for making the planes show up better at a longer distance. I think most CFS games suffer from this issue. Seems like EAW and Aces High does a good job.

So, is it a 'who cares' or 'big deal'?

It's a big deal to me. I agree that EAW did a much better job at this than IL-2
