Well, it's not German, but my Father's side of the family, who came from Norway, wanted to name me Olaf! My Mother's side of the family is Irish/Scottish, so they went w/ Shaun...
Which, for anyone around from the time (1977), was inspired by the John Lennon song of the same name...
So, I was actually named after John Lennon's son...
