Wow. Thanks for that link. It says they have invested 83.4 Million in the engine for OFP2. Maybe it WILL be as cool as the vids they have shown us. Hope the gameplay is SIMULATION and not hosed like CoD4.
And yeah, I remember reading about OFP2 being in development since '05.. hope it's worth the wait. Has the potential to be legendary...

EDIT: That's a very cool site. Lots of information there. Says they plan on making it as realistic as possible. I'm droolin now... from the site:"That's what we're creating - the realism. Not the Hollywood movie"

There is an old press release from August 2007...hmmmm says it will be released for the PC and 'next generation consoles' that I assume are the PS3 and Xbox360. Did you come across any additional info on this at the OFP2 forums and fansites? I'll have to dig around.

Codemasters announces a new modern day theatre of war for Operation Flashpoint2: Dragon Rising.

Company Reveals Full Game Title and Teaser Trailer at Games Convention 2007 in Leipzig, Germany.

Operation Flashpoint2: Dragon Rising was today announced as the full title for the return of the leading name in modern military simulation gaming. Codemasters also revealed an explosive teaser trailer for the game in its booth (Hall 4, F01) at Games Convention 2007 in Leipzig, Germany. The Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising teaser trailer is now available to view and download from http://www.codemasters.com/flashpoint2.

Planned to arrive in 2008 for major console platforms and PC, Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising marks the long-awaited return of the total conflict simulator. This addition to Codemasters popular franchise will challenge a new generation of gamers to survive the chaos and rapidly evolving situations of military combat in a current contemporary theatre of war.

Set on a vast oil-rich island located off the eastern coast of Russia, just north of Japan, Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Risings plot takes place during a time of tension between Russia and China over the islands disputed ownership, explains Andrew Wafer, Brand Manager for Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising, at Codemasters. The game opens as Chinese forces launch an offensive, and referencing the games title, as the dragon rises over the island, players will find themselves in a situation that is set to flare up into a flashpoint like never before.

Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising utilizes an evolved version of Codemasters proprietary game engine Neon. As depicted in the new teaser trailer, soldiers, weaponry and military vehicles will be as authentic and realistically detailed as ever, and the environments will be a comprehensive simulation of real world locations, densely packed to create rich and challenging tactical combat situations.

Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising is in development at Codemasters Studios, and is currently rated RP (Rating Pending) by the ESRB. Be sure to check out the official game website located at http://www.codemasters.com/flashpoint2 to see the teaser trailer and to sign up for future development briefings.

I don't hold very high hopes for OFP2, hold more hopes for ArmA2, Codemasters aren't exactly very experienced when it comes to military simulations, atleast not developing themselves.:)

Well I think they only annouced it when they did to take some of the heat out of the ArmA release. I bet it will be a while before we hear anything more ... perhaprs around the time ArmA2 is meant to come out?

I'm starting to think you're right. I've been messing around with DiRT, and I'm not real impressed. Modded it to the extent I could with new brakes and no reset, and while it's really pretty and the detail is amazing on the cars and environment, there is just something wrong with it. It just feels off. Doesn't tell me alot about Codemasters attention to realistic physics.
