Thanks Canon. I knew you'd been brought in originally but then you'd had other stuff come up. Glad to see you were able to help after all. Jester...what can I say? I was just...well...anyway. My apologies.

A blind monkey and MS Paint could do a better... Ah, I'm just kiddin' No boobies, though, which always disappoints.

Not really, Blue 5. JG 51 is known to have used dark-green paintschems before, especially on Bf 109s of IV./JG 51. The new 190s were painted in the same "tradition" ...

I did not read the readme, but can pick out canons skin in a folder of 1000 and they are great and did notice his being in there la5s looks like his 190s a8 a9 d9 but could be cpt farrels. I was talking about the pack as a whole addition. many of the skins in the pack were made by the same authors i mentioned who i think have a better quality of work and deserve to be put in the game. everyone has different taste in skins but to me the best skinners in the community are the ones i mentions and havent seen anyone come close to their work.
once again much appreciated for all the new skins. Kamikuza have you made any new skins since the mig3s?

i couldnt agree more, we actually made a pack back in the day. The people of warclouds and many of the skinners using no marking generics the pack was something like 800mb and got all the skinners but 1c ubi was not interested

We didn't send BMP's to Maddox, we did them in other format (can't recall which one) and there were four files for every skin. Then there was a layer for the damage textures and so on. So in other words, it would mean a lot of work to convert the BMP's into the format required. If we had known that we had this much time to do it we would have fixed more aircraft though.

Cpt Farrel is absolutely correct. Each hard-coded skin consists of four TGAs (one for each of the 4 degrees of distance), and each TGA includes an alpha channel layer, in order to allow the damage texture to appear, when the aircraft is hit. Moreover, an uncompressed folder with the four TGAs is 5,06 mb. Bmps are useless for the hard coding of the textures.

At first I have to say that the new skins are great addition, but as far as russian planes skins go I have a few remarks for authors that did them. At first my major gripe goes with winter scheme of Mig-3ud. It has red wings, but it has been shown that it is nonsense (why would they put white camo and afterwards red wings?). Look at this page, where it is shown that the wings of that particular aircraft were green: http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/mig3/howred.htmlThe other a bit less problematic is the chosen skin of La-5F and Yak-3. As far as my sources go, the all grey camouflage on these aircraft isn't standard. We could polemize about the all grey on the La-5F, as there were deficiencies in dark grey colour so they painted it whole grey, but most of the aircraft were probably light/dark grey. Same goes for late war Yak-3, 80% of photos of yak-3's I have are in grey/dark grey. I will cite here my references (Vetsik, M, Vrany, J.: Lavockin La-5, MBI publication): Once more the skins are superb, but I think the grey/grey camo would be more appropriate at least for the Yak-3. Thanks for your answers and I hope that creators will look at this issue.

If I remember well, the grey-bluegray-lightblue color was introduced somewhere in 43/44, because for the green-black paint scheme some chemical was needed which was of big shortage. So grey/bluegray La-5FN is more suitable for 1944+ and La-5F from 1942/43 should be better in the green-black scheme as La-5.

Hmmmmmmm ... weird. I had uploaded a different Yak-3 scheme. Well ... just one more scheme to replace.

As happens often, people mix taste with good quality work. And the quality of the new skins is stounding.
Thanks a lot!

Thanks for your answers and I hope that creators will look at this issue. ok, mig-3 I think this (http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/mig3/howred.html) is from the graphic designers point of view these arguments are complete nonsense, I worked with all kinds of digital image processing tools and this whole color comparsion isnt that simple + there are known issues with films from that era but I'm not an expert on that. "The better scan looks this one, scanned (if I don't miss) from an old issue of Aerei, or from MiG OKB of Piotr Butowski and Jay Miller." This is where I stopped reading, you need to scan the diapositive to obtain usable material, so I would say we cannot be sure...colors are tricky thing. YAK-3 appears ingame only around Berlin, we used this book as source: "Soviet Air Force Fighter Colours, 1941-45" by Erik Pilawskii http://vvs.hobbyvista.com/Research/SAFFC/bookaddendum.php, read the book. The whole issue is for me 1,5 years old...
