Nice to know the work here is appreciated by the majority.
To those that don’t, I am very sorry to have disappointed you.
I see it as a fine collection of skins, a whole lot better than the ones they replace.
Great work by all involved I say.

I will try to fix the E7, which looks like an earlier example sent rather than an updated later one.
I am fixing the F-4 as we speak.

A warning to you Goodwood, you have already betrayed my trust once, don’t push it m8, pointing the finger after you used my template in the first place is like a kick in the teeth. Most people would be grateful of the time saved enabling them to make the original deadline rather than doing the whole lot from scratch. So back off. You know who your m8s are when this sorta stuff happens.

A Jedi should understand this.

Now Gentlemen if you would, I will take my leave of you and get back to work.

For what it's worth, I really like the new default skins. They are an improvement over the original lot by a wide margin. To all the skinners who contributed to the effort: Thank You!

I think that the new skins are excellent. Compared to what we used to have, I think the brightness of the skins are of minor importance.

Ditto, Very nice work from what I've seen. They defaults have been a major bugbear for me in my attempts at mission building.

(I hope the JU52 has been redone too?)

Sorry guys to ask this, I realise that 4.09 is a Beta, I am now guessing (after reading the whole thread), that when 4.09 isn't Beta, you will be re-releasing these skins with small modifications?

So for the moment, I'll wait until 4.09 is full release, but when it does come, do I just unzip the file by pointing it to my IL2 skins directory?

Will unzip the skins into the respective folders, and not replace the folders?

I just want to make sure that I don't lose any skin folders during the install.

Thanks, MP.

BTW, rom the screenshots on page 2 the work you have done is amazing...any chance of throwing a P-38, P-47 and P-51 into the pack ;\)

Cheers, MP

The skins are hardcoded into a SFS file so there's no problem with your PAINTSCHEMES folder. The only thing that might get overwritten are some of the old void.bmps.

And there's no chance beyond what was already changed. Sorry.

Good lord, the new default skins are sooo much better than the older ones.. I'm very happy with them and as has been said; different people think that some skins aren't right based on the info that they have and so on. We are talking about stuff that there very rare "true" sources for the info that we'd like. Not to mention peoples color settings with their monitors.

So, yes it doesn't please everyone, but these are only default skins, if we don't like them, we can always use other ones.

Anyway, everyone is entitled to their opinion's.

Mine is - thanks for all the contributions to date.

The skins are definatly better then what was in game before, however i do not think they are the highest and best quality like, hammerd, sooty, cpt farrel, kamikuza, alexs, and canon's work. No disrepect to the skinners and i do like the skins alot for those in game just think theres the same ones already made might higher quality, and i do know first hand at what it takes to create them. Just my two cents and thx for the work you guys put it.

Canon (IIRC) and Farrel did work on them, as did Kamikuza.

Just FYI.

My contribution was the Lavochkin (La- and LaGG-) schemes.

I really like them. I love how there is a continuity in the 109 series. With each new variant it seems the paint scheme gets more complex but still have that family look to them. The new Russian planes are very nice too. You can't tell models from their colour anymore. You just have green and black planes with red stars on them. Very nice. The best part IMO is that my personal favourite skins don't look out of place with the new defaults anymore. My F-2s used to look odd next to the fluo green ones, now I manage to retain some form of uniformity.

Thanks to all contributors !

Cheers

Nico
