Lets see some action... anything is better then nothing.

Bar-Humbug and a better new year..

As you wish ! Let the fireworks begin:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTm01jLdicw

(2min video showing AI-controlled flak turrets on warships, lots of enhancements to be done, but a teaser of the fire curtain to be faced in the infamous Bomb Alley!)

Meanwhile, Ariel is doing a 2008 calendar render, with the new hires A-4Q model (cortesy of Cesar Turturro):

And I'm working on adding detail to HMS Ardent, the forgotten frigate of the Falklands war, still needing much detail in the superestructure and stuff, but here is it:

Merry Christmas to all and have a great new year!

Thank you Dante!!! That was impressive!

The sky and water look great! Loved the sense of speed, and the action!

Thanks again for taking the time to post that!

Thank you all! \:\) I've just uploaded a slightly enhanced version:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoG2jYxzBvE

The 'orangeness' in the flak bursts are reduced, and the smoke puff increased a bit (they're mostly 40mm shells anyway!)

People commented that it looks and feels like a WWII Pacific scene \:\) due to the amount and volume of flak - but its based on the artistic depictions of the 'Bomb Alley' by argentinean air force captain Exequiel Martinez:

i'm sure theres videos around that shows it but you could ask around about it.

some artists over exaggerate what happens...

Hi Dante, good stuff, thanks for posting the Video and Screen. On the video I'm sure I saw what looked like missiles, especially on the second run?

Regards, hope you had a good Christmas!

yup.. although this artist guy has been there as one of the pilots...but indeed, looks like he added a pinch of artistical drama - I think the real thing should be like half the density/puff size of what we have now (for 40mm flak) and about 1/3 or less for 20mm - what do you guys think? Any vet here who has flown through a flak barrage in real life? (I'm pretty sure some of the SFP1forum's gentlemen have done it back in 'Nam)

HarryR: thanks \:\) Merry Christmas for u too! Oh yes there's some SeaDart/SeaWolf/SeaCat thrown in my direction but the guidance code for them are rubbish now, and the proximity fuses aren't working as advertised (lucky me!)

Cool low-level action. The flak burst interval looks awfully regular, though. Did the burst really explode with that metronomic quality in the Falklans conflict?

I don't think so... but what happens in the simulation now, is that the 20mm and 40mm shipborne AA batteries have a constant rate of fire (about 120 rounds/min), and the controlling AI is instructed to leave the trigger squeezed until running out of ammo if an attacking aircraft flies inside their range radius.

Every round explodes atm (they have a timing fuse variable, located in the respective ammo cfg file)

I don't know whether or not they're too large, but I'll bet they looked very large to him.

Dante-JT, should not the twenty millimeter gun have a significantly higher rate of fire than 120 R.P.M.?

Yup, the 20mm shipborne Oerlikon (the GAM BO1 used in the Falklands) has a rate of fire of 900 rounds per minute, but I've disabled 'em, so you see only the 40mm Bofors in the video. The issue is that the AI is deadly accurate now and with a 900 rounds per minute rate, we're instantly dead as soon as we enter effective range radius - of course this needs a lot of work, in reality these weapons weren't radar controlled and were basically WWII tech, unable to be really effective against low flying high speed targets.

First thanks for continuing the game with love! I appreciate that, and I just got a system that should run it well!

But...

I think the yellow/orange 'boom' effect from the flak should last just a fraction of what it lasts now. I think the visualization we see before the black puff lasts too long.

Also, the sound WILL get annoying before long if there isn't some variation on the volume and some '3D'/doppler effect for the flak.

Also, on the fly-by, the very end should be drawn out a little longer.

Thanks for considering my input.

Happy holidays!!!
