Time-outs are usually due to port forwarding issues.
1. Are you on a VPN, like Hamachi, VNN, or others that schools or apartments use for Internet access?
2. Are you using a router, or is your modem similar to a router? By similar to a router, I mean, does it have a menu with advanced features like (hardware) firewalls, port triggering, and most importantly, port forwarding?
If you're on a VPN that's controlled by an external force, you're out of luck unless someone you want to play with creates a similar VPN and you join as a member.
If you're on a router or a DSL modem that's like a router, visit
http://www.portforward.com and work on getting your ports forwarded. You want traffic that arrives at your external IP (i.e., what you'd get from
http://www.whatismyip.com) to get routed to your IP on your router (Start->Run->type "cmd"->type "ipconfig"->read off your "IPv4 Address" or similar). Go into your router and set up port forwarding for ports 2934 and 2935 for both TCP and UDP traffic.
Also, you may need to configure your firewall to allow activity for the Allied Force EXE or allow traffic on ports 2934 and 2935 (or both). If you get the ports forwarded, turn off the firewall and see if that works. If so, turn the firewall back on and see if and how it interferes.
