HASP (and the SP3 update) plus a good terrain like the OTE/PL combo or PL2/PL combo is the quickest beginning. The two terrains mentioned also update all the effects in the game, so HASP plus one of them is a full graphics update for the whole game!
Non of the latest UOP's has a stock plane set so FM's are individual for each UOP and cannot be mixed.
However, HAG2 (from the Hells Angels main page) does have a stock plane lineup and any stock based FM's can be used with it. "Greybeard" has recently updated a stock based FM.
All the current FM's are good.
CM11 is a good tool for switching FMs and other minor patches like terrains. A Glide wrapper is a must, you will have to experiment for what works best for your machine.
Be patient, go slow adding stuff. Get your basic game installed, install a wrapper, test it and make a copy of the whole RB3D folder. Save the original for an emergency archive in case things get messed up. You can always re-copy it and never have to re-install the game from CD.
Use the copy to add utilities like CM11, FCJ-CP and ReLoad. Test in FLY NOW and Campaign after each addition! When fully tested, DELETE all Campaigns and COPY that folder. This is called a "loaded copy". Make several "loaded" copies!
This "loaded" copy will be used to install a UOP like HASP, HAG2, WFP or ROTJ3R11 or others.
