Hi guys,
we'd like to inform you about a new way to control your Falcon!
With Pocket MFP you can forget the complex keyboard sequences required to interact with ICP and MFDs, just press the properly button on your Pocket PC as you would be on the real cockpit.

You can see it at http://www.PocketMFP.com
Don't forget to check the demo video at http://www.pocketmfp.com/videos/PocketMFP.wmv

Any suggestion/feedback would be very appreciated!

THX
Enjoy!

Wow, that's pretty neat. If I had a Pocket PC, I'd probably use that for my MFD controls. Alas, I do not own such a device...

OK Luca, heres my money and feedback...

Looks like a great concept...
In the past I used VNC on my iPaq to view FalconAF remotely. (Just for kicks).

I tried it with an iPaq 4355 running WinMobile 2003 (Client), and WinXPSP2 (Server)
program installed fine, but didnt run when linked to laptop running ActiveSync4.5 and .Net v2.0
Have over 16mb of free program memory on the device, and 1GB of storage space.

Other than the program not running first time, Id have to say your directions for installation
could be clearer (took me 2x to understand to use the iPaq explorer to install the CAB file).
I did get the client program to install and show up under the PROGRAM menus on the iPaq. Thats
when the trouble began. I couldnt get the client to run on the PDA after reboot and invoking it.

More feedback:
A start to finish startup procedure would also be helpful. Remember, the users dont have your experience with your program, so assume nothing. Like:
1. Start Computer (Server) and IPaq (Client)
2. Invoke ActiveSync (default over USB)
3. Invoke Server program
4. Invoke Client program, check for status ....
5. Invoke FalconAF
6. and so on...

Also the wireless connection via networking and bluetooth need to be step by step with pictures.

Lastly, the server program needs some explaining as to what the fields are for.

I feel like I paid to be a beta tester.
Lets hope you can get my situation debugged as soon as possible so that I can report
good news about this program. If it doesnt work, is there a refund?

For the readers...
Heres the spartan install and run directions:

==================

Installation Notes
==================
Be sure to have Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 already installed on your Pocket PC
(see links at http://www.PocketMFP.com)
Using ActiveSync copy PocketMFPSetup.CAB into “My Documents” folder of your Pocket PC.
Then on your Pocket PC use “File Explorer” to navigate over “My Documents” folder and
click on PocketMFPSetup.CAB.
Setup will start and the Pocket MFP shortcut will be created on your start menu.

For the server module just run MFPServer.exe before starting Falcon 4.0 Allied Force.

=========== FAQ ==================
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What F-16's cockpit panels are reproduced?
A: The complete ICP and both left and right MFD OSB buttons are usable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Which Falcon 4.0 version are supported?
A: At the moment only Falcon 4.0 Allied Force is supported.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Can I use every Pocket PC devices with Pocket MFP?
A: Current Pocket MFP version supports Pocket PC 2003 family devices with a screen resolution of 240x320.
Future Pocket MFP versions will support VGA devices.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q: How does Pocket PC communicate with desktop PC?
A: Pocket MFP uses the ActiveSync link between PocketPC and desktop PC (usually via USB cable).
It can use TCP/IP network as well since it relies on PocketPC's IP network capabilities
(such as WiFi, Bluetooth PAN profile, etc.) with an IP of your choice.
The MFP Server listens on TCP port 23125 by default, but that's configurable as you want.

Hi AV8R,
looks like you have confused .NET Compact Framework 2.0 that MUST BE installed on your PDA, with .NET Framework 2.0 that you say having installed on desktop PC.
PocketMFP requires .NET Compact Framework 2.0 installed on your PDA to work!

Anyway we've sent you two emails. Maybe the timezone difference cannot permit us to perform "real time" troubleshooting, but we are totally committed to solve any customer's problems.
So please continue our troubleshooting via email.

Regarding "spartan install and run directions", we chose to be essential for v1.0,
but we'll take care about your feedback for next versions!

Hello !

Very interesting thing you show up here, if I only could state myself a handheld owner.
I have a Symbian S60 cell phone with 240x320 resolution.

If you could only transfer this great to S60, and for sure making it usable with other simulations like the Il2 series.
That would be great !

Update...

With some clearer instructions and some trial by error, the proggy now works as advertised.
Hopefully the insights gained will be converted over to more indepth instructions and FAQs.

I will say this, if you have a F16 simulator cockpit, or a "ghetto cockpit", or have a PocketPC
laying around that youd like to give a new life to; this proggy is a value add to FalconAF.

My PocketPC will be put on my Cougar's base under my left hand. Another place to put it might
be above the keyboard or standing upright along the monitor as a touch panel interface.

The sky is the limit as for potential.

Update:

1. Wireless WiFi mode works
so I dont need the USB cable that links the iPaq to the PC.

2. Potential areas of concern:
a. ICP mode, COM1 button doesnt change DED to UHF radio mode
b. LMFD mode, CRM button doesnt switch over to its A2G mode label when A2G button selected, but does work as an OSB.
c. RMFD mode, similar to "b" reported above, the DEP button label in A2A mode doesnt change its label as does in the FalconAF RMFD; but does operate as it should as an OSB regardless of the label
(point being, buttons dont change labels as do the graphics inside the game MFDs when OSBs are used)

3. Alt-Tab while in 3D world and back, slows down FalconAF to iPaq communications
Not something recommended anyways with FalconAF, so I doubt its PocketMFP's cause.

4. Pictures of PocketMFP running on my Laptop and iPaq:

It is payware, right?

Rather than asking who we’re going to fly the F-22 against, we should ask who’s going to fly against the F-22?

Yes is payware:
http://www.pocketmfp.com/buy.htm
"Buy Pocket MFP version 1.0b for only € 15" (or about $25 USD)

Confirmed working configurations that I have done myself...

FalconMFP v1.0b runs on two PocketPC OS:
- MS Windows Mobile 2003
- MS Windows Mobile 5 (newer)

Hardware tested:
- iPaq 4355 (400mhz, 64mb ram, WiFi, BT)
- rx1950/1955 (300mhz, 64mb ram, WiFi)

Connectivity verified:
- WiFi (via wireless LAN)
- USB (via ActiveSync)

Got to admit, that is an amazing looking program. Well done. I have a PPC, but I also have a bunch of CH MFP's that do the job. But I was amazed none the less.

If anyone is interested, PocketPC units can be found on eBay quite cheap. It doesn't look like you need a super-duper one with phone and stuff like I carry. Plus, you can use your PPC for so many other things too.

Nice review AV8R.
Did similar a few weeks back. Also had some innitial trail and error, but it all works out.
You indeed need to know your way around computers, drivers, connections etc.

I had it running on 2 PDA's (Dell Axim 50v - Dell Axim 51v).
Hope support for the VGA series will be available soon.

And although it's a nice tool, there are other possibilities available.
A simpel standard touchscreen and your finger is a good enough emulator like your mouse pointer.
Buddy Touch is also a possibility. Although there needs to be some work done on the profiles.
Cockpit state is not read and this is cause for lotsa nonfunctional buttons.

But am degressing. PocketPC is good. A smart find.
Wondering when they will port it to Windows so we can use it on any networked PC in a window.
This would be a supreme addon with software like F4Glass or FalconGauges. The only thing they miss are functional MFD and ICP windows.
Take it from here guys.

All this has been done -- just using touchscreens vs. pocket PC units.

Great stuff. This is also cool, particularly the ability to use WiFi and save on a USB connection. Brilliant.
