Here it is. Early August it was being tested ( hacked and modded of course ). With the new sound mod and this 6DOF mod, IL2 is now very very impressive, both audibly and visually.

I don't need the 6DoF as I have a TIR v1 so it doesn't work.

I'll sure be glad when Oleg sends out the patch. I personally don't like the fact that people keep hacking his program.

The cockpits in Il2 were not modeled with 6DOF in mind. You start moving around and you can see holes in the cockpit. That being said, 6DOF, at least in a limited amount, would be nice in the F4U-1 (Corsair I) when trying to look around all of those canopy and wind screen frames.

While I welcome 6DOF in IL2, that video shows why we don't need a hacked .exe version of it. The pilot is sticking his head through the canopy and forward past the gunsight and looking around. Hopefully any officially supported flightsim with 6DOF enabled would limit your ability to do that. Otherwise you might as well be flying with the no cockpit WONDERWOMAN view. I would rather go without than be able to do that (or have others I am trying to shoot down do it).


on a slightly related topic...
It is a shame Oleg does not also do something about the canopy pillars being so thick. They may be made to ral dimensions but the stereo vision of the human eye actual makes canopy bars much smaller in the field of view they block. You would have to balance aesthetics, vs the engineering, vs the actual field of vision, but at least it could improve visuals in the cockpit realistically.

Just think Tempest with 6DOF - Wow!

The other problem I have with the cockpit, is that the pilot's viewpoint inside often seems to be that of a midget!

If Il-2 loses its reputation for being unhacked online in exchange for patchy better sound, better default skins and potential 6DoF support, then it's become much less impressive. These hacks are simple vandalism.

I don't know. It's a nice hack but it seems like it can get pretty goofy pretty fast. I am just amazed that Maddox went to the trouble to represent accurately the reflector lens in the gunsight when you are likely never to see it or see it that closely. For the most part it really is a 3d cockpit which is why it is a shame that there is no 6DOF support. BOB2 has 6DOF support but it's not as if that game's cockpits are worth looking at.

I fly in russian public servers, unlike many Western players in this game. These servers aren't listed in Hyperlobby ( but are listed in All Seeing Eye ), thus western players do not know of the many cool russian IL2 servers. Anyway, flying and chatting with russian players gives me the inside info on all the latest stuff, so I can keep you guyz up-to-date.
