Anybody have some idea of what was the little white object that exploded a couple hundred meters from SS Canberra cruiseliner?

video:

http://www.comcen.com.au/~raiment/attack.mpg

The text description on the website says it was an "argentinean missile that was destroyed by a surface to air missile from HMS Fearless just 300 meters before hitting SS Canberra"

Huh?? There are no records of any kind of missile released by argentine planes inside "Bomb Alley". It was too small, quick and bright to be an aircraft - my guess is that it was indeed a british SAM exploding itself when out of their maximum range.

Any other guesses? \:\)

Pretty sure this is SeaCat miisle (its so slow and the optical flares are visible) self detonation at the end of its time of flight.

Hi IvanK! Long time no talk to you \:\) yes, I think that its a SeaCat too! On the other forum, people suggested that its a Dagger or Skyhawk kill. I think the detonation is too deprived of fuel-fireball to be a plane kill IMO

Btw, IvanK did you watched the History Channel's "Dogfights" episodes about Mirage action in the middle east? Worth a look for all Mirage fans out there!

They're available for legal download in the following link:

http://www.tvshowtracker.com/latest/title/Dogfights

U$1,99 it's worth the price - the eps are "Desert Aces" and "Dogfights of the Middle East". I look forward for the Falklands episode scheduled for season 2. \:\)

It's SAM outside range. Watch its earth fall after explosion before the end of the video.
