anyone here watched this anime show? i know there'll never be another cowboy bebop, but i was thinking of giving this show a try, since bebop definately made me appreciate the potential for great anime.

if so, where do i start, since there seem to have been several movies and a series.

thanks

I have the movie, but I did not know there was a tv show. Movie is about 10yrs old, probably predates the series.

Watch the 2 movies first and then watch the series.

GitS has three movies and two seasons(?) of 24 eps each. But be advised, it is not like CowboyBebop. I feel it is aimed at older audience than CB does. Here's evidence. Philosophy... \:D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_in_the_Shell_%28philosophy%29

I love the Stand Alone Complex series' to death. Main characters jabbering on about politics was the only gripe I ever had, but it wasn't a real detractor.

And then, of course, you have the Tachikoma. If you dont love those blue spidy-bots by the end of the first series, you will by the end of the second \:D

the first movie is whre the sister watchovinskins got their idea for matrix, and is an ADAPTATION from the manga version with a lot of liberties.the anime serie is more like the manga while still trying to make some conection to the movie.

here is the list in order Ghost in the shell : the movie,Ghost in the shell : Stand alone complex, then the movie Ghost in the shell:Inocence, then Ghost in the shell stand alone complex second Gig, then the OVA Ghost in the shell: solid state society

its not like cowboy bebop but a great show, more mature both violence wise and politically, dont get let down by some slow chating episode it gets better after.

TACHIOMAS FTW!!!! i loved them in the first season specially the construction "cammo" one, loved that pattern. i hated them at the end of season two.....i mean.......common again? \:\(
i hate the Ukikhomas! stupid robots!!!!

The new Solid State Society is awe full, horribly animated I was quite disappointed. The first movie
definitely had an interesting mood to it but having read the manga (and being a shirow fan for a long time) found it didn't even come close to the Manga. Which is very hard..but Mamoro Oshi's style is extremely dull, long winded & devoid of humor. Look at any of his films and you will find endless diatribes (talking heads) and a bit of action at the end..woopee:| The best GITS animation is from the PS1 game..it captured shirows style & energy perfectly. And to boot was a pretty cool game.

The new Appleseed CGI is getting close to the spirit of Shirow's manga..we'll see how the 2nd movie does.

I just recently watched the new CGI Area 88 series...it looks nice, but for some reason I prefer the old hand drawn art from the 80's version...call me old fashioned...Something else I really liked the art style of was Metropolis...story was only okay, but it was pretty. \:\)

I hav'nt been smokin anything, the animation was 3rd rate compared to the movies, or even the TV series. Especially the scene near the end when they are attacked by the mechs..very cheaply done. Overall p** poor.

the animation is the same from the series, and like i said its a OVA! not movie!
i think your complain is the jerk walking the mecha ciborgues do,or that there not much fluid moviment for a movie anime, but its ova,and they certainly took the same team from the tv series.

btw have you seen the game? it looks like oni.

hehe I know what you mean ;\) I'm wondering if they removed the sex drives of the cyborgs...because I know I couldn't concentrate on my job with her around in some of those outfits she wears...

And yet, in one of their skits, the Tachikoma managed to poke fun at those...erm...'proportions'.

well, just watched the film, and the story and animation were really good, but overall the film was nearly ruined for me by the really monotonous and uninspired english voice overs. after bebop, i guess i have a higher standard, since the english voice actors for that show did such a superb job. yeah, i know i could have used subtitles, but i didn't. i'll give the series a try, and maybe get more interested from there.

I never watch dubs unless there's no other choice. I've been burned too many times by crappy voice acting...

yeah, despite my post i eventually switched to subtitles. cowboy bebop was a joy to watch, partially due to superb american voice acting. not ghost however...

overall, my reaction to the movie was pretty lukewarm. i will give the series a try though, especially thanks to that link you sent me.
