Hi chaps

I am working on the above model for putting into my homebuilt 'pit (not quite finished yet - thought I'd share the WIP)...

(My Flikr photo)

As I don't have casting or CNC milling facilities I was just wondering about how much this would cost to do here in the UK and if anyone had got any tips/suggestions/ideas?

Update: Finished the top part of the bezel (image above changed to show "finished" version). Now working on the middle and bottom sections...

Cheers

OK another question please - how do I check my STL files are OK for CNC milling before I carry on creating the model?

Cheers

Caput Mundi (well, it used to ...
I'd check out with someone in the http://www.cnczone.com forums. Chances are there might be someone close to you that can give you a quote and check the files. If those reliefs can be modified to slot in rather than being machined from solid material it might be possible to build the entire thing with a simple CNC router. You might even make them so that they will hold the two lower sections together once snapped in. Glue the lot with epoxy, sand it and paint it black and it will look as a solid piece anyway

Thanks very much chap I will check out that link now...

I was planning to fit the bottom 2 sections with studs, that will then allow the whole MFD to slot together in a fashion similar to the real thing (having studied numerous photos) - allowing replacement of parts if necessary. The bottom 2 sections will also contain the switches and rotary encoders that will allow them to be linked to the sim.

Cheers

Joined and posted in there also at Viperpits.org - hopefully in one of the 3 places someone will be able to help!

Hello All,
It looks like you got this figured out, but I thought I would share something just for future reference. There's a good Yahoo Group where some of the members do small side projects and will give you quotes on your machining needs. Here's the URL if you are looking for someone to machine something, just post into here.

Hope this helps,
