I am trying to determine if I have something wrong in particular with my system. I seem to get a crash every 3-5 missions. I just finished doing a bombing run and was watching the explosion when my system locked up. I hit ESC and it dropped me to desktop. I am going to install ReadTable.

Are others having crashes this frequently? I need to know if I should be experimenting with different video drivers, etc. or if this is just bugs in Janes that everybody has. I have reinstalled Janes several times exactly according to the above stickies. Any feedback?

I almost never have crashes while flying JF-18. It is very stable.

Crashes during explosions either sound like a driver issues, or the explosion detail bug. Check you graphics settings in-game; sometimes the EXPLOSION DETAIL option has no selection, which will cause crashes. Put it back to HIGH (or whatever setting you use) and that should fix the problem.

Joe,

Are you using the DXTControl as described in the sticky above? Also, I can't run in Win 98 compatible mode due to movie stutters. I will search for other fix alternatives...

No, I'm not using DXTWeaker. I prefer to just hop in and fly, since the DXTweaker implementation is not perfect. It means I don't use antialiasing, but I care more about the gameplay.

I finally found something I can do that will repeatedly result in a crash on my system. When I start JF-18, I am starting the mission in "Single Mission" for landing on the carrier during the day. After it starts, I hit escape to quit. I then restart the mission. After doing this a total of three times, things go wrong. The task bar at the bottom has "huge" buttons. It is like they are at a much lower resolution. My monitor is a 24" widescreen running at resolution 1920x1200. I have selected this in TSHv3 and also selected in TSHv3 for "same as desktop". My system crashes no matter what. Here is the data that came from ReadTable... Anybody have any suggestions?

I'll have Frenchy, the ReadTable expert, take a look.

Once I turned Volumetric explosions off and it helped. On the second occasion I did reinstall (after a newer TSH version last year gave me similar problems) and it also helped. I don't fly F-18 without DXTweaker on my recent hardware. Turn those explosions off and pls report back here. If the problem persists reinstall F-18.

It happened to me before when I first got JF-18, the solution: update the graphic card driver. Just go to your graphic card's website and download the new driver version then install it.

When I first got JF-18, every time when I played 2-3 missions, the sim crashed. Later, I tried to update my GeForce 2 driver to see if it will solve the problem. So I updated it and ta-da it did indeed solved the problem. I can play many missions as I like with the JF-18's graphic set to high with all features turned on.

About the explosion problem, well it is very likely that the graphic card driver's update will solve that.

I frequently get CTD when I end a mission and the debrief screen is coming up. Occasionally I am left at desktop in 480x640 resolution and have to reboot. Other times I CTD in my normal resolution and can just restart the sim. The problem is I don't know if I was successful on the mission, and in a campaign its as if I never flew the mission.

MD, that sounds like a bloated pilot file.

Joe,

Did you ever get in touch with Frenchy? I was just flying my third mission in my campaign (stock) and it dropped me to desktop about half way through the mission. At first I could see my desktop, then it went back to solid black and I could hear my jet engines running and nothing else. Is it possibly a video driver? Does anyone have an x800 ATI graphics card? If so, which drivers? I have installed the latest drivers...maybe I need an older driver? Thanks.

Actually my JF18 is never crashing. Except I try a manual aerial refuel... only fix is auto-refuel for me.

But thats all. Runs fine at all. (XP)

Nano,

I let Frenchy know, but he is pretty busy with his job right now.

Hi, sorry for late respons, but i am very very very busy...I have trapped your error in the dll. I'll see this weekend if its a tsh error with all modification done, or if its F18 error (in this case i cant do nothing)

Dirk98,

Instead of turning explosions off completely, I just backed it down to medium level. This seems to have fixed my explosion problem. Thanks.
