The AI already faces the same restrictions. The problem is that the modeling of the pilots ability to handle the stick, maintain situational awareness, not know the full limitations of its machine etc. isn't modeled. The AI will be severly flawed in BOB but it will still be two generations ahead of Il-2 and a generation ahead of most of the market.

I seriously hope the AI is more than 2 generations ahead of IL2 as that AI is, to put it simply, ridiculous. I don't want severely flawed AI and in this day and age it shoudn't be expected or tolerated.

I would imagine in IL-2, AI was budgeted less than 10 percent of one CPU core -- maybe a lot less.

My hope is that BoB is threaded to make use of 4 core CPUs (I don't have one, but I will next year). Then, with maybe 10 times the calculations (say 1 entire core for AI) the AI could be very good -- that is, difficult to tell from a human pilot in the heat of battle.

Anyhow, IL-2 AI is adequate for me, so I am not real concerned. But, I can understand that better pilots than me would be concerned.

AI and making a computer look like a human isnt some black magic voodoo, BOBII:WOV development has proven this ;\)

I too look forward to olegs next sim but i do wonder if the reason there is no screenies is because its hard to show code in screenies. Eye candy is great but how do you show good AI in a screenie?

When did they fix the AI in BOB WOV. ;\) I know Buddye is doing some very credible work continually fixing AI problems, but I'll be disappointed if the AI in SOW BOB is not much better.

Oh it was broke alright... I've had WoV from the start, and it was a bit of a nightmare.. Constant ctd's, replay was crap, and the AI was nowhere near realistic..
However, the constant patches have at last made the sim a joy to behold.. and although it is a different experience to IL2 etc.. it is now definately worth playing.

Fewer guns to model, slower planes means you don't need to worry about getting near sonic speeds, engines smaller and simpler, fewer types of airfoils (no laminar wings or swept ones)...everything about WWI is easier to model in a sim than WWII. Now if you get past WWII and start talking about Korea or Vietnam then the question becomes debatable. However, there's no doubt WWI is the easiest of all the eras to model when it comes to number of variables.

I've said it in other threads about SoW, and I'm glad to see others feel the same way; the AI in the SoW series will make or break the game for me. I don't want Air Quake. I want a historical representation of period air combat with all the limitations therein. If we see more head-on sniper snapshot nonsense, then I will never buy another game in the series.

I hear plenty of people talk about the how "human" the AI is in BoB II. If this really is true, I suggest 1C examine what Shockwave has done and do something similar.

(I bought BoB II awhile back but couldn't get it to run on my computer. I read some of the fixes provided and boggled at the fact that in the year 2007 someone would find all that acceptable just to get software to run. Lockon, F4AF, IL2 FB, Il2 Pacific fighters, IL2 1946, Flanker 2.5 even WWII fighters! -- never had one problem with any of these.I never made much fuss about it on any forums because I could easily chalk it up to my older than old computer.)

I've got BoB2 and the AI is very good. It is much more like playing against a real person. The AI in Il2 is lacking in the planes but the ships AI is what kills me. I have trouble getting ships to slug it out even at very close range. I hops Sow has improvements in this area too.

If you could convince the ships in Il-2 the other ships were airplanes they'd attack them HARD. ;\)
