Yea, it is. I went back and checked. It's supposed to be quite good too. Looks like the people in here already know about the beta going by another post. I signed up for it and recieved a code then went to download it and found out it is 1.7gb of data to download so haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

I`ve played the beta a few hours. I like the idea of selecting a role: Armor, Airforce, Infantry or Support. Teamplay is needed for success.
Haven`t seen so much detail and such great explosions in a RTS game!

Best friggin RTS of the century. Isn't first with a single feature I think, but it has taken the good ones from many games around and polished them into near perfection.

A very, very well made game and incredibly balanced, even in its beta state.

I absolutely love this game. Two things about tactical aid strikes though, I wish the A2A Cover showed up quicker, or covered a wider area, and the Fuel Air Explosive is quite possible the coolest looking airstrike I have ever seen in a game.

Is it only mp? Or is there some sp in the beta?

It is only multiplayer. There is a tutorial in it though.

The alpha and both betas have only been on the MP portion of the game. It has been confirmed by Massive that there will be a skirmish (single-player) mode in the release version, but no one outside of Massive has seen it as yet. Tom Clancy, IIRC, is supposed to be working on the storyline for the skirmish mode.

Actually it's Larry Bond (of Harpoon fame) who did the story. He did supposedly co-write Red Storm Rising with Clancy, though.

The Open Beta is now over as of yesterday.

Reportedly, a demo will be out in a couple of weeks or so.

World In Conflict has already won the Game Critics Award for "Best Strategy Game."

Both IGN and Gamespot have named WiC "Best Strategy Game", "Best Strategy Game PC", and was a finalist for "Best Graphics" and "Best Game Overall" on Gamespot.

Yep; as I undstand it, Larry Bond was responsible for alot of the military/techincal details for Red Storm Rising, plus he gamed out alot of the battles for the book. He also helped out on Hunt for Red October and wrote a several novels on modern regional wars (Red Phoenix, Caldron, Vortex, etc.), besides developing lots of scenarios for his Harpoon game systems. If not the greatest writer from a literary standpoint, he is certainly qualified to come up with a plausible (at least as much as possible) Cold War Gone Hot scenario.
