Yeah, ok, with ArmA released, probably not.
Anyway, I'm having nothing but trouble trying to connect for online play with ArmA so I was wondering if any of you guys might still be playing OFP online.
Unfortunately, I uninstalled all my OFP stuff once I installed ArmA, so I'd have to re-install all of it but, what the heck, if enough people are still playing it I'd give it a try.

I'm having trouble getting ArmA to work online. I can connect to a server, but when the mission loads and it's time to actually enter the game I get dumped to the desktop.

OOOh this forum is a real ghost town... Actually, I was wondering too. I can't (sure as hell) run ArmA, but I have a copy of OFP Cold War Crisis patched to 1.46 that I can still play. No Resistance or Red Hammer though, but I saw a boxset offering the complete OFP collection for less than 20 bucks in a local shop the other day, that could boost me up. I just wanna know if that'd be worth the expense. I'll just drop in here from time to time, see if there's still anyone interested... Cheers Nico

I uninstalled OFP after getting ArmA only to find I can't (for whatever reason) get ArmA to run online (not even over my LAN) so I'm going to re-install the complete Game of the Year package of OFP with the Resistance add-on. I never had any trouble connecting online with OFP but I don't recall there being a lot of servers running it.

Well, judging by the number of folks still playing it here, we won't need much more than one running server to match our needs for coop missions... While I'm here... would anybody have a tip to share about how to survive the campaign mission in which you end up on your own in a wood, facing a Hind, a BMP and about half of the Red Army ? I started OFP again because I was bored of one-man army FPSs, and I am quite disappointed with this one... I ended the previous mission with 5 team mates, a LAW launcher and copious amount of M16 ammo, and now Im on my own with no missiles and the bare magazine minimum. What's with that ? I only hope the resistance add-on is less, well, solitary Cheers Nico

It must have taken me a dozen attempts to complete that solo mission, but it was a long time ago and I don't remember all the details.
Mostly, I think you have to stay out of sight as much as possible. I think the only time I engaged the enemy was in the woods. Out in the open you're dead meat.
It was one of my favorite missions because it really left you feeling alone and scared.
Other than that, all I can say is: "Run, Forrest! Run!"
Yup, I think it's time to re-install OFP again.

Especially with the mods available for Resistance 1.96. Suggest you look for the "GOTY" (or Game of the Year version - eBay). The one you were looking at will do tho. I just bought a brand new one a few months ago for $10 plus shipping. Because of the Serial Key, is better to find a new one. It's next to impossible tho to get people together for it. Too many other games (distractions). Even if you do find people with the time and interest, you still have to agree on the mods and addons. Expect to play by yourself.

I'm mainly an offline player, no matter what game, so I should be quite at home playing against AI. Its just that, being a team-based land combat sim (as opposed to one-man army FPSs) it would have been a lot funnier with other humans. I can't command a team for cr*p but I would have felt quite confident following orders...
I do think the game is worth the expense, especially given how cheap you can get it for these days and the number of mods available. Knowing that there would be other players out here to play coop with would just have made it a MUST.
Cheers Leeman. So basically, I have to deal with the two ruskies chasing me in the woods, and then keep a low profile all the way down to Morton. From previous attempts, I remember a small infantry group with a BMP patrolling the south of the woods, how did you get past them ?
I'll be trying again tonight.
Cheers
Nico

Nico Nico, I don't recall specifically how I got through this mission. But, I do recall that I had no success trying to take out the BMP and the troops. If I attracted any attention to myself I died. A lot. I think patience is your primary weapon here. I think you need to play it just as you would in real life. In other words: Be afraid. Be very afraid. Don't engage anyone in the open. Good luck. Let me know how you do.

We have a small group interested in various sims. Some nights are Flight (Falcon:AF, Longbow2) other nights more Tactical..We've been doing Ghost Recon (original) as our tactical fix, but have been talking about some OFP. Generally some weeknights/weekends starting 10 pm EDT. We have a mix of East Coast and Mountain Time zones. I am on the East Coast, but the 21:30-22:00 start time is mandated by my son's bedtime..and the usual endpoint around midnight governed by MY Bed time.
I think my ICQ is in my profile, so feel free to contact me. Never got much into OFP and only played a little bit in MP, so my skillz are pretty poor. We're all sort of in the rediscovery phase.
