W.r.t the Canberra being shot down, yes, I think so. Certainly for the mission I'm working on I set up the strike, give it target coordinates and set it going. The AI takes care of the rest, including the effectiveness of the SAMS. Most of the mission is AI controlled apart from the Player's aircraft. You can opt to be any one of the roles within the mission.
The activity available to you is drawn from the following list of things all going on within the timeframe of the mission...
1. 2 x Mirage IIIEA on pre-strike CAP
2. 6 x IAI-Dagger on mission to bomb British bombardment fleet
3. 6 x Canberra B2 on mission to bomb main British carrier group
4. 1 x KC-130 tanker, tracking East-West North of Islands
5. 1 x A-4C Skyhawk based at Port Stanley, responding to Naval bombardment
6. 2 x RN Harrier intercepting Canberra CAP flight inbound to main British fleet
7. 1 x RN Harrier intercepting Mirage flight
8. 1 x RN Harrier intercepting Dagger flight
I've made it as close to what actually happened as I can but it's a game after all, so you have to allow for the variances of the AI behaviour. Sometimes you get hit by Arty, SAMS or an enemy aircraft and sometimes you don't. It certainly makes it fun to watch the scenario being played out.
