Updated SE5a WIP - http://www.gennadich.com/index.htm#

Ok, for us non 3D modeler types.... what am I supposed to be seeing. I tried to compare it to previous shoots of the SE5a but I can't tell the difference - image resolutions, etc.

I can too and if someone from GT could confirm my impression : you use a specular map, a glossiness map, and a bump map? (Diffuse map of course). Besides, are the maps 2048x2048 resolution?
It looks excellent but I have two minor crits :
- I still think the reflections on the wings are too strong. Besides maybe the map should be blurred a bit.
- I don't think the SE5 tyres had sculptures like the ones shown on the pics. A quick look at the Windsock Datafile on the SE5 confirms this. It seems you have taken a replica aircraft with new tyres as a model for this but they should be sleek.

Me too - the texture detail is just great!

Well, I guess I was looking for something beyond image quality - like there was some new changes to the 3D model itself.

Jolly nice. So when can I fly her then?
Serious question; my eyesight's getting worse and my teeth are dropping out!

I think bzhyoyo has nailed it!

The airframe detailing looks raised, like through a combination bump-mapping &
specular and/or materials light mapping (the wrinkled canvas, panel lacing,
the fuselage/fuel tank brackets look wonderfully 3D):

I like the shade of British PC10 too.

Anyway, these new special effects add so much to diminish the flatness of previous textures!

An interesting pic showing that GT is probably heading in the good direction re reflections on PC10 doped wings.

You wouldn't have thought that the wing swould reflect! But looks like they do. Not the most amazing update but EXCELLENT modeling, I can't wait to buzz no-mans land with that!

Yes one tries to drop hints based on raincoats and puddles and anvil-shaped clouds and photographs taken on different film with different parameters like colour reproduction and sensitivity that one must take care when studying pictures (in order to copy the effect) that the shots are not taken during less than ideal lighting/weather conditions. For example when collecting pebbles on the beach one wets them to see better the texture don't one not, to eliminate glare. Colours and textures do not stand still there is no one True texture... to get around this problem means care in calibration. But old photos rarely have a bar of Kit Kat in shot have you noticed. First they eat and chuck the wrapper away and then they take the photo. If only they'd waited the greedy b*ggers

Here's another pic of a shiny WW1 aircraft, this time an SE5. Look at the lower wing, GT have this right.
