First: Hi all, I'm new to this forum, though in the world of RB I'm not a stranger. I updated my computer and after a few years, I once again found myself installing RB2 + all the possible mods, including Hell's Angels Super Patch.

But, some years ago, when I was last time playing RB, I remember that it was somehow possible to increase the drawing distance far beyond the limits provided in the game (Visibility Slider). I think it was possible to mod the game somehow by editing some of the ini-files (do I remember correctly?), but I really cannot remember how to do this.

If someone has a clue what I'm talking about, I'd appreciate the help \:\)

at top of page an useful tool to manage RB possibilities, included distance at which objects are visible (equivalent to visibility slider into graphics preferences but allowing much more far range). If you meant horizon (haze) distance, that would require hexediting baron.exe (IIRC) and anyway I don't know how.

Thank you, Greybeard. That is awesome tool.

But, I did mean the horizon distance. There was some easy way to 'cheat' and adjust the slider way more, I remember trying this and the slider was off the scale and it did work. Unfortunately my previous computer was too slow to handle this increased haze distance and I had to disable this cheat. Darn, I hope to find this one again.

The FCJ-CP utility from Capt. Darwin has the Terrain Distance Slider, AI Slider and everything else you can think of for pushing the graphics to the limits and beyond

JJH, welcome back to RB, and to this forum. Are you thinking of this?

"Set all Graphics options to Max. Open rbprefs.dat (in the Data folder) with a hex editor and change the 9th byte from 64 to FF. You can also change the 10th byte from 0 to 1 or 2 (any more and the game will crash!)

Now when you fly, the fog will appear far in the distance and you will enjoy your flight and the new terrain graphics!

NOTE: Always backup your original files first and note that the above change will have a drastic effect on your frame rates!!!"

I've never used it, but it reportedly works.

Birdbrain, that sound more familiar. Though I do remember that there a utility that made this mod automatically. But there's no problem in hex-editing, I'll have to give this a go, as soon as I can find the spare time \:\) Thanks!

Birdbrain, I tried hex editing, I only edited 9th byte from 64 -> FF and there is a huge increase in horizon distance and on my system, I'm getting good Frame Rates too (25 - 40 all the time!!).
