Just wondering if there is any point getting into EECH now with EECH2 just around the corner?

These sims clearly demand a serious time commitment and, as a Dad, my time's depressingly limited. Your advice on which to choose would be hugely appreciated.

EECH 2 not being out yet it's hard to say for sure, but EECH/EEAH has such a wealth of user mods and user made terrain and such that if I were to pick one it would have to be EECH/EEAH, all it lacks is the lates in terrain and the newer stuff from the users isn't too far behind what we are seing in the EECH 2 in game. It can be hard to find though.

Hi lht645,

Many thanks for your reply... and just what I was hoping to hear. From what I can now see, there has been a tonne of support and modification for EECH bringing it even further along than Silent Hunter 3 (my current favourite sim).

EECH1 it is then! And maybe EECH2 in 2-3 years time when the modders have gone to town on that, too. \:\)

Tim

I go with lht645, thus I suggest you should pick EECH1. The installation procedure is somewhat more difficult than you would normally have, but the community is really generous to help you. The quality of the new game is highly speculative, so it could be disappointing. It's a risk to take.

As your limited spare time counts, blast yourself through the installation is my advice. And then take an easy learning curve with the help of the community.

If you manage to know EECH1, it's probably not too hard to go into EECH2. I expect the same keybinds and gameplay. Only graphical and multiplayer enhancements are really the matter to make the switch.

EECH can take years to get old, I play for a while, take a brake, come back and try another map, I've had it for a few years and it's still my favorite sim, and with the development team at work it's always new. In addition the community is great. Welcome aboard,

I'm guessing that is good advice. If it were me..I'd go ahead and get the jump on EE2 by learning EECH/AH.. Worst case scenario is that you play (arguably) the best helicopter sim ever made a cool 5 years after it was released..

Many thanks indeedy for your thoughts, one and all. Feels like a grown-up and friendly forum. :-)

EECH it is then... he said gulping nervously at the sight of the latest keyboard map!

While I believe EECH2 has got updated (among other things) gfx, I also believe all or at least most human-computer interactions will be left as-is; meaning majority of kbd shortcuts are untouched.

Think about it. Anything else would be suicide.

Using common sense, I'd say learning EECH would only prime your skills for EECH2.

Yea, I'm a johnny come lately to simming, I played Falcon on a Mac SE way back when then nothing until maybe 2004, loving it now though, started with apache air assault while on extended travel for work, then LB-2, been placing EECH and Falcon AF mostly since.
