Balsa Munitions R&D Institutio...

I've just bought this from the Supermarket this morning, for the princely sum of six whole and real English Stirling pounds. It's one of those backward compatible original box titles, now marked as the classic range, which will run on the 360. I have it for the PC, but I can't be arsed playing it whilst bent over my PC workstation area, so at the price I saw it for, I thought what the hell. The only downside so far with the game, is that it doesn't support widescreen (I'm sure that a tough special forces guy like myself can cope with this \:\) ). However, after I had run the update that allowed it to played on the 360, I found a plus side in that there are around thirteen multiplayer maps to download for FREE! So all is not bad. What the gods of Ghost Recon hath taketh away with one hand, they hath returneth with more in their other hand.

Ok, three inevitable closing questions. Has anyone else got this title? Is anyone thinking about getting it for the 360? If so, to either question, does anyone fancy a spot of old school Ghost Recon coop?

I've seen this, used, at my local GameStop for around $4 U.S.

If others are going to play it, I might as well get a copy too!

- It's the orignal GR view, that shows the reticule. There is no 'Over the Boulder' view in this title.

Excellent. Perhaps you can give yourself some time tonight to familiarise/reacquaint with the game operations/controls, then tomorrow, after your modern day gentlemanly duel with Jeeves, we can hook up for some coop? We can use AI to fill out the other 4 team members, unless others get the title as well.

Hmmmm pink doesn't really go with my pale complection, but as you live in sunnier climates you probably have more swarthy tanned skin, and will look better on you. \:\)

It can do standard multiplayer gaming over XBL and standard Split screen on one box, based on what I've so far read.

I must say that it's pretty weird, but weird in a good familiar way, because it's just like the PC version. However, the controls are very much more streamlined and better than when using a keyboard. I've spent around 2 hours just tooling around in the first mission, trying different plans of attack, loadouts, feints and ambushes, etc. I still haven't bloody completed it yet. Lol, and this is just the first mission, it's very engrossing.

Might have to pick this up Hengist. For the price that's pretty cheap.
How is it running under emulation? Any graphical anomalies?

I had both of the original GR games for the xbox but sold them once I got my 360 because the multiplayer over live didnt function. I couldnt figure out how to get it to work and I am not sure if it ever worked.

Someone should test it out and make sure before everyone goes out and wasted 5 bucks \:\)

After playing coop GR on the PC the other night I was instantly reminded by the "spin and headshot" AI as to why I always despised SP and Coop Ghost Recon. It was my favorite adversarial game for a long time but it's time has passed with me.

@Jeevz. I agree the AI is pretty lame. The level designers had to resort to map/building/level tricks to give the AI an edge, or crank up their uber aiming skills and damage. I have GR for the PC and with the mods out for it, it's as good as it gets, and once you've played GR:AW and GR:AW2 it's just not the same. Nostalgic, yes, but true, it won't last, however for 6 pounds, it's cheap. I checked Futureshop, it's $20 CDN + tax (more than the PC GOLD version).

@Master Same here, I bought the original on the Xbox and had the same problems, it was a launch title failure for me. I know a bit about networking, did a few traces, spoke with Live support, searched the forums, called my ISP, yadda yadda yadda. No joy. No patch, gave up.

Something to do with how Live (at the time) searched for other game players. Certain ISP's weren't propagating this UDP traffic fast enough and the game was sensitive to that. Actual game match-ups were few and far between if at all. I was so disillusioned with that game and Xbox Live at the time I let my Live membership fade away. I went by a different handle at that point.

I fully understand that computing power just isn't available to make an AI that's both believable and challenging but I'd rather face more semi-competent AI like in Vegas or GRAW than fewer inhumanly perceptive and accurate AI. It's really not being tactical when you have to employ a bunch of gamey tricks to beat them.

Coop on GRAW, GRAW2 and Vegas just smacks these old games around nowadays. I loved them for what they were and for helping to create/advance the genre but I'd rather just let them be good memories than go back and see them for what they are today.

@+G, The only thing that I've seen in the graphics department, is the previously mentioned, lack of widescreen support. Apart from that, it seems to run fine with no issues.

@Master, Apparently it all works but there's a problem with voice comm's. This is based on stuff that I've read over at the official forums, in this thread where I've contributed a few replies (basically a copy 'n paste of the one's here)
