Weird problem with the chpro throttle and vista. Vista sees the throttle and the buttons all work in the controller test in control panel, but the 4.2 software won't download a template into the throttle. the download icon is whited out.

What is up with that? Ch's customer support (if one could use such a generous term for non-response) never responded to my query. Basically the pro throttle is pretty much DOA in vista for some reason.

Anyone with a solution for this?

OK Vista is seeing the hardware, but the software isn't working with Vista. Is the 4.2 software Vista Compatible? I had this issue with Saitek HOTAS and XP. The software would instal but didn't work. Perhaps there is a Vista Upgrade of the CHPRO software?

Norman , OK.
To quote the CH website on the Control Manager download page...

"Currently there is no support for Windows Vista"

It is bold and written in yellow....

I'll bet this is the problem

Hopefully CH will have Vista drivers soon..
I decided to hold off on Vista for two major reasons..

1-My company (FedEx) informed us that there are no plans to use Vista in the foreseeable future due to compatibility problems

And

2-I read (I THINK on the CH Hanger boards) that Control Manager wouldn't work with Vista yet..

I'm certainly going to wait till people like HP get their drivers sorted out. My AIO printer has "basic functionality" with Vista till they get their drivers squared away.

Yep, no Vista drivers yet for CH stuff. I would think CM 5 should be out soon, as I had my hands on a beta copy back in December...

Bob has said at the CH-Hangar that Vista drivers are indeed inwork and may be available soon (CMv5.0) But, as Beercamel has pointed out, you may want to visit their site...

Vista drivers for the Control Manager are in the works and we hope to have them ready very soon.

Our tech support department is available Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 PM (pst). Who did you send your inquiry to Greenheart?

Greenheart,

Your name would not happen to be "Michael" would it? Could the e-mail in question have come from a "speakeasy.net" address?

Because you sent the message directly to my e-mail address on Monday of last week. Problem is I was in Las Vegas for ISC West 2007 and did not get back until today. You would have been better served by submitting your question through the "Request Support" e-mail link from the page you got my e-mail address off of.

For future reference it is the large green button labled "SUBMIT" on the Contact Tech Support page. It takes you to this --> http://www.chproducts.com/retail/form.html page that will allow you to submit your question or issue to the Tech Support que. This means that your e-mail will go to whoever is in the shop and your message will not have to wait around for a specific Tech to check their mail.

But I did answer it this moring \:\)

Well thanks for the response..... everybody (including the CH guy).

Email is "best effort" service, and spam filters have their own mysterious ways I never did get a response. I'm a pretty forgiving guy. In any event I'm not about to dump the chthrottle on ebay just yet. I can wait (a while). Vista isn't up for games right now.... Yes I knew this, but what can you do? Vista came pre-installed on the machine and I still wanted to play games on it.

As far as being able to discover that the Vista is not supported right now on the CHprot throttle the ch web site is a bit ambiguous.
I have to admit that I just looked at the chthrottle page http://www.chproducts.com/retail/t_pro_throttle.html page. That page has "vista" listed as supported in bold type. That is only partly true, and if I can be mislead then so could others. I looked no further, and assumed that the latest software release would support the chpro throttle in Vista. I didn't check the other, (perhaps not so fine) print elsewhere on the web site.

In any event the wisdom of crowds come to the rescue and answered my questions.....

I have CH manager working fine in Vista just have to run it in XPsp2 compatibility mode and it works perfectly

Gaming and vista are just fine i run all the simulation games new and old on my vista box so if you think vista is not ready for prime time your smoking way to much crack.

Patience may be a virtue, but it has it limits. So is there any hope of CH providing Vista support any time within my lifetime (or the lifetime of my throttle?)

If you did what i suggested it will work fine I have vista and it works perfectly with CH4.2 you just have to do an extra step that it looks like you dont wanna do what i suggested Dont #%&*$# if you dont do everything you can to fix the problem.

It appears to have been a vista problem, I upgraded the memory and the memory had a defect, I thought I caught it early enough, and I thought Vista had recovered but it really didn't. This was apparently one of the weird problems the system starting exhibiting. All appears to be working now after a reinstall of vista from scratch. I've installed memory in maybe a dozen computer and never had a defective module ---- but there is always a first time.
