It's March 15th, the closing date for the LB2 wallpaper competition I set up. Well the results are in... not a single f**king entry!

May I remind you all that it was YOU people that were b*tchin' about spicing up this community.
Well, you've certainly let me know what sort of folks you all are!

AV8R was the only one who even attempted to send something... his pics can be found in the first post. So, I guess, congrats to AV8R. No prizes though, as he didn't actually submit the pics to ME.

What a shameful bunch! ;\)

Now that you've got that out of your system, read up!

People not submitting entries to your wallpaper competition should not be taken as a personal offense. No need to go out of your way to offend the readers of this forum because your expectations were not realized.

The phrase "YOU people" presupposes everyone who reads this forum were party to your allegation. I, for one, never complained to you or asked you or anyone else to "spice up this community", so the only thing we know for sure about "what sort of folks you all are" is evidenced in your tantrum.

"What a shameful bunch!"...the winking smiley face does not mitigate your attitude regarding the readers of this forum. I suggest your assessment of what is shameful should begin in your mirror.

This forum existed long before you dropped in and will doubtless survive after you're gone.

I hear what you say, IB. And the last line with the smiley was intended to be a light-hearted closing line. I do understand that you Americans don't always get the British (or at least my) sense of humor. No, I don't take it personally, I just thought that it would be a good way of getting some hunger going for LB2 again.

I didn't get that at all, AV8R. Was it generally an insult or a thumbs up!?

Flyboy,

In response to your response, you said:

"I do understand that you Americans don't always get the British (or at least my) sense of humor."

The fact is, its a two way street...
Its not only that we Yanks dont get Brit humour, but also Brits dont always get Yank humor.

The burden is on the humorist to make his wit clear, not the listener's fault if the delivery or
joke wasnt funny or understood. So if we dont get your humour, its more of a reflection on the
your humor than the listeners. Surely we all agree on this.

As Eugene points out, humor is best caught live. If not by face to face, then voice to voice.
Text to text has to be about the worst medium.

So just assume the best in what ever people say, and jokes/dry/wry wit has its best chance of being funny and not insulting. Apply Grace liberally.

AV8R as always offers good advice.

Those of you who frequent Frugal's Falcon Forum may know Aragorn, who manages to be known to be funny, in text on line, in part because he is completely over the top much of the time and rarely seems to be misunderstood. So gets away with saying the most outrageous things. On the other hand, the droll, dry wit, understated irony manner of whatever culture unfortunately does not as often come across as intended, as not meant literally. You almost have to know the person writing in that manner, before you can understand that he or she is being ironic.
