Hi guys,

I have posted a new AAR at the Retro-Gamez blog. This time it's a Tornado AAR, from the Operation Desert Storm campaign. You can view the AAR here.

Hope you enjoy it. As always, any comments are welcome!

Thanks,
- Obelix

Tornado was the sim that prompted me to go out and buy my first PC. So all in, Tornado cost me in the region of 1500 UK Pounds. It was worth every penny. The inflight graphics may have aged badly, but the clean look to the mission planning, arming and debrief screens still holds up very well. It is a pity they never produced a true sequel (Super Hornet was such a wasted opportunity). Thanks for the trip down memory lane Obelix.

Glad you like it. I also lament the fact that there never was a Tornado 2.0. Even a Tornado 1.5, with high-res, flat-shaded graphics engine (similar to the one used in Flanker or Hornet 3.0) would be very welcome.

those Tornado graphics remind me of that Apache Longbow game for dos I have somewhere.

I'm a crappy pilot, but one hell of a shot.

Awww.. Tornado was a great game back then. Played it again and again for several years.

Tehre was this one mission where you had to intercept a russian AWACS in really bad weather. It was sooo immersive.

Good AAR too, thanks for the heads up!

Yep, I bought that game, but I can't say that I enjoyed it very much. I don't know... it just felt "arcade-ish". And the implementation of the campaign system is not to my liking.

Thanks for the trip down 'memory lane'.

Some of my favourite moments simming are from this game.

The best has to be a coordinated strike on a target where all the planes of your flight approach the target from different vectors. You would typically see a couple of the other planes hit their targets just as you were approaching on your bomb run.

Good stuff!!!

I am honored... BeachAV8R, one of the Kings of AAR, reads my humble attempt at writing a report. \:D

Anyway, thanks for the kind words!

Glad you like it, MojoFlow!

Yes, planning the vector of each aircraft to divide the defenders, planning TOT of each aircraft to the second, deconflicting the altitudes to avoid blowing each other up or colliding above the target... and then trying to fly with enough discipline to make it all happen...

The AAR was written for a level-1 campaign. I've been away from Tornado for too long that I don't think I would be able to handle level-2 or command level campaign. Maybe when I finish this campaign I will try a multi-aircraft campaign.

Yeah..I think what I enjoyed most about Tornado was the planning phase was pretty darn cool..coordinating the flights..the planning map..etc.. It had a certain strategic level to it that was years ahead of its time. Definitely a great trip down memory lane.. \:\)

Did anyone ever see the LOCKON vid "Tornado: Precision Strike" by AndrewMCP? It was a tribute to this old Tornado game and "those mad few still waiting for Tornado 2.0." It is an extremely well done vid pining for a sim of the Tornado attack aircraft.

I don't know Obelix. I took a look in one place I thought it might be but alas it was not there. I'll ask around and see if it is available anywhere. I have it myself on my hard-drive but no place to upload it to.

Enigma,

How big is the file? I can give you a location for a while if it isn't too large.
