Do anybody know where I can get an .EXE installer? .Jar and .Java aren't working for me and I even installed Java Utility but it still don't work. And the links to .EXE installer are dead. I am hoping that anybody out there is still hosting the .EXE installer.

Yes I have looked through that website, so far no luck. FreeSpaceOpensetup.exe is what I'm looking for.

Thank you for your time.

O Gaming God,

Yes I found that file but there are not much in there.. No installer, no mediavps, etc. And I don't like to go throught the "dance" again, it brings too much painful memories from F4 days.. ;\)

But thanks for help, O Gaming God.

oh i thought you had fs3 open 3.6.8 installed and just wanted to move to 3.6.9

you'll be wanting this file then
http://www.fsoinstaller.com/files/installer/FreeSpaceOpenInstaller.zip

"The installer will install the latest FS2_Open 3.6.9 Release Candidate over retail FS2 and the latest version of the launcher, as well as the latest mediaVPs and patches needed to get them working with 3.6.9. "

Sorry for lack of the details. I don't have any FS2 Open; no 3.6.8. I just have retail FS2 with 1.20v patch and no-cd crack. So yes, I like to update retail FS2 to 3.6.9. But no worries guys, the SCP website is re-hosting the .ZIP file with .EXE installer so all is good. It is same .ZIP file, Davros.

But I got both files from both of you guys so thank you so much. \:\)

"FreeSpaceOpensetup.exe is what I'm looking for."

Whoops, I meant FreeSpaceOpenInstaller, not FreeSpaceOpensetup. Sorry. Posting at 2 o'clock in the morning seems not good idea afterall...

Is this the FreeSoace2 you can download for free?

I use to own it and wish i still did. I've heard various rumours of being able to download it for free legally somthing about the EULA?

Mad, yes you can get full FS2 for free, there is a couple ways to have it, one - you can get Daemon virtual CD-ROM software then d/l three FS2 CD images then use Daemon to run it. Two - you can install FS2 with no-cd crack and 1.20 patch by online.

For option #1, visit this site, http://www.freespacezone.com/

For option #2, visit this thread, http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,43905.msg898110.html#msg898110

FreeSpace 2 Open is a project that used FS2's open source code to enhance the game and add some new features ie. 3D radar, specular lighting, etc. You can get it from this site, http://scp.indiegames.us/news.php

This is very confusing.

ok so did online setup, went fine. Then went into the directory and opened FreeSpaceOpen installer and started the .exe.

Now its opened a DOS box and is downloading/installing all sorts keeps stopping me and asking me yes/no to install certain bits, trouble is ive no idea what things are so thus far ive had too just say YES. This is taking Forever is there any descriptions anywere for what these things are?

I keep checking the directory and sure enough its slowly filling with new mission packs, the new open launchers etc. Just ive no idea whats actually going on and what i actually need to install or dont need to install.

I've been just answering YES as well.
There is little information that I can see to explain all this new stuff.

My question now is this, when this is done, can I simply transfer the c:\games\freespace2 folder to another PC and run the game, or do I need to do this dance all over again?
