It's probably been covered, but how will the British radar intercepts and vectoring to enemy formations be handled? Inquiring minds want to know.

Fighter Command rings up the Group and passes the flight information to the flight commanders I think Flyby so it'll be just like FB but with more radio messages as the BoB fighter targets will be bomber formations like the Stukas in the Channel

I hope there'll be that BF110 with the radar in the plane. I think I saw a 110 with a CRT in the cockpit a long time ago, not sure that model was finished but that would be good tracking the blip \:\) Was a nightfighter I think over Germany hunting RAF bombers.

You've seen the Chain Home towers models I should think and the little hut

Don't forget the other tracking devices, the acoustic horns and observers. Will all plug in to the warning system it was very advanced. I think I read somewhere that in effect the British had built the first local area network with a huge number of input links from the periphery to the main operations controller

RAF Fighter Command Operations Room look stop talking about BoB all the time I'm getting over-excited here \:\)

Hey Ming,
Thanks for replying. If I get your meaining, airborne squadrons will get updated vectoring (as when an enemy formation changes course)? Clarify that for me if you will.

As for the 110, I kinda doubt a night intercept version will be flying escort over the Channel. I'm reading a book now titled " The other air war" about the RAF and Luftwaffe fighting it out at night. I think the Battle of Britain was mainly over at that point.

Back to radar control. It might be interesting to see how Blue handles itself in the BOB, knowing Fighter Command is tracking it. ;\)

Get back at me!

The Radar vectoring used In BOB was fairly general and not Close control as was/is done post war.

So in effect all the pilots are recieving is a DR vector to a reported concentration. Range bearing and Intercept geometery was very very basic. The radar operator was not even in direct contact with the fighters.

The only way for Bromide to be effective is to load it into a cannon and fire it at yourself from the waist down.

Somehow the RAF squadrons was able to be in close proximity to German formations, and make attacks. So if the radar operators were not in direct contact with those squadrons, someone has to have been. Don'cha think? Height and bearing info might have been basic, but it seems to have worked at least partially.
Things that make you go "hhhhhhmmmmmmm".

The German formations were pretty big and therefore hard to miss if you're within the right sort of area (thanks to your provided heading and altitude info).

Here is a good page with info on how the radar info was transfered through the system to pilots http://www.raf.mod.uk/bob1940/controlsys.html

Salute Veta,
great link on the RAF, and it really clears things up for me. \:\) Now as to how that will be implemented in Oleg's BOB is still a question.
Also, can you imagine how this sim might play out online? I'm sure it will be a success either way.

I dont think Oleg has spilled the beans on how the game will work with radar. There's still a lot of dev time left for them to make changes. He mentioned starting weekly dev updates but we have yet to see those. Must be pretty busy in 1c land

rgrt, Blazin,
now to see the Spits tie up the 109s, and make them waste fuel over the channel while the Hurries go for the bombers. This sim really ought to be interesting.
