With regards to the title of this post, I mean, the padlock system in Il2 that cuts out when you get the bandit in front of you, and reverts to a straight ahead view, or are they finally going to give the user the ability to unselect this, ahem, 'feature' and make it more like a proper Padlock system, where you track the target to the sights, not the sights to the target?

I haven't seen anything mentioned in any articles regarding Padlock or any other tracking methods. I never had a problem with the padlock on the few occasions I had to use it. It cut out when the plane was underneath me as I'd expect, but rarely if ever did I have serious issues.

THAT being said...... I can't recommend Track IR highly enough. I know it may seem like a 'luxery,' but it WILL TRANSFORM your experience into a MUCH MUCH more immersive one.

I myself plan on upgrading or rebuilding a computer after BoB comes out. Many have said likewize, and Oleg states a high end system from last year will run BoB at lower settings.

IF you are planning to upgrade or rebuild I HIGHLY recommend setting about $150.00 aside for Track IR.

Yeah, I know that's not what you were asking for, but it IS TRULY worth the price of admission to have Track IR.

I'll second that.

I won't fly without my TIR.

Period.

Definitely get the TIR with 6dof, make sure you get the clip and all. Oleg's next flight sim will support leaning around and turning your head at the same time so you'll be at a disadvantage online if you dont have it! For single player it would be just plain fun, imagine looking around those pesky cockpit bars rather than rolling your plane to keep the bandit in sight! I dont know if they plan to have the zoom feature or not with the TIR, I'd assume so but that's not as big a deal as leaning around. The zoom thing is just a little gadget where the closer you move towards the monitor the further in your zoom will go in game, pretty neat but I want the lean more!

Far as padlock I havent heard of any changes in the works. I'd imagine it will still be the same as current IL2s setup. You do know there's a snap to front button you can use with pad lock right? So if the bandit your tracking is on your left side you can hold down the snap to front button so your looking out the front screen while manuevering, once you've turned or whatever you can let go of the button and you switch back to the padlocked guy. It's really slick, I had that button mapped to my joystick and used it all the time back when I first bought IL2 and TIR wasnt available.

TIR - rocks!!! To all those who ever said it wasn't an advantage online - ESPECIALLY in a server with no padlock - you are LIARS

\:\)

I'd still like a good padlock with options though ;\)

I'm not sure if people were calling it an advantage or implying that using Track IR was an UNFAIR advantage.

Some of the complaints I heard seemed to be from those who couldn't compete in full switch servers because of the view system, and not having outside view enabled.

(I'm probably splitting hairs..... but sometimes the complaints seemed whiney. There ARE those who competed pretty well despite lack of TIR.)

I never liked the padlock system in IL2 either. A good padlock function is a way of compensating lack of situation awarness in the "flat screen world". TIR may be great, but that doesn't mean that improving the padlock is wasted. There will always be lots of users that don't have TIR.

Actually, the one thing that kept me from ever flying the IL2 series for any length of time was the padlock system. That wierd deadzone in the middle of the screen just doesn't work for me. It is unlike ever other sim. Personal thing, I suppose..

Quick TIR 4 question.

I am using a newly installed TIR 4 and its associated software.

I'm using the IL2 built-in "lock to front center" feature of padlock to keep me "locked" to my gunsite when the target is centered in the front windscreen.

What are you guys doing?

I guess I'm in the minority.

I really like the padlock system as it stands.

Once the plane is in the front of the cockpit, the view doesn't move around - that makes gunnery easier for me, as I can better visualize my plane's aspect to the other.
