clickable cockpits would work well with touchscreens... but even in that setup they don't work so good for radio buttons, multi-position levers, etc.

The 2 things I'd like are... 6DOF and a body in the seat..... as in legs and arms. Nothing worse than a ghost flying your a/c. If you can see the pilot from the outside looking in, why not be able to see his ams/hands and legs/feet while your on the inside? There are a couple of freeware a/c that do have body parts visable when you fly and it makes all the difference in the world for realism, just like the Tracker IR does for views.

Because they obscure vision to the gauges!

For a real person, it's no big deal, as we just move an elbow out of the way. In a sim, it's a different matter completely.

I've never understood the point of showing arms and legs in the cockpit... It completely blows the immersion...

There you are watching your own arms and legs control the aircraft (for most people this is while sitting at their desk)... Why would I want to see a little minature duplicate version of myself flying the plane? I'm the one flying the plane.

Also as someone explained, it only obscures the view and makes programming a headache...

Move along folks, nothing good here...

Yes, so glad no clickable cockpits... An airliner sim yes... But not a combat sim... Oh yes, that was the thread topic...

Lock On's legs only approach is a good compromise, I'm really not keen on the empty cockpit.

Flyable bombers just have to have visible animated crews this time round, its like piloting a ghost ship otherwise. Just wrong.

Animated bomber crews make sense... Anyone in the 3rd person makes sense... Because there's no "duplicate" issue... The duplicate in a sim is oneself... Agree that legs only might be the way to go but then again now I have 4 legs instead of 2... No easy answer... Must let the brain combine my own legs into the sim... Nice to have an imagination...

I hadn't even thought of the 'they aren't my legs issue' just the fact that there should be legs in the cockpit is enough.

Anything further gives me a headache \:\)
