Seeing as no one else seems to be asking I thought I'd start this thread.

Why's there screens and videos of a flyable Su26 aerobatic aircraft included with the SWBOB report and multimedia? Are Maddox intending to move into MSFS territory?

I hope that's not the case. Although I was never a fan of the CFS series, it would appear that the IL2 series is the reason CFS is discontinued. Competition is a good thing for the consumer. But then again, if Oleg did make a general aviation simulator, I know I certainly would buy it.

I think it's just a test aircraft for the engine. Like directly comparing the ingame phyics to the real world.
Considering that SU is one of the most maneuverable planes out there capable of extrem flying I guess that makes sense.

Well, I guess it's just for fun while developing the FM code. I don't think that it's impossible that Oleg himself has some hours in the SU-26 himself which may be a cause too ;\)

I've flown the SU-29 (the two seater version) and I must say that it truly is a kick ass plane! Those ailerons are bad... It is one of the best aerobatic planes in the world (if not the best) and it would sure fit as a trial bed for flight models... And it sure has the looks \:\)

I sure agree that the Do-17 would feel more justified as a flyable for BoB but the devs must have some fun too after developing 200+ WWII era aircraft... I think it should have been kept as a semi-secret easter egg.

-edit: wrote this while you where writing beowulf, same thoughts at the same time \:\)

It wouldn't bother me if they stuck it in as a surprise flyable, it just seems an odd thing to spend so much time on if you're short of development time. After all they have gone the whole hog with this, producing an external and fully 3D cockpit.

Its intriguing.

Besides, Oleg has promised a number of new online play modes - may the SU-26 have a part to play in this?

Long ago there was a talk about making Yak-52 into IL2 in order to prove FM. That talk finally materialized in the form of Su26.

Well I think it's excellent that the Su-26 will be added to the game. There are several aerobatic IL-2 teams who definately would prefer flying a Su-26 rather than a Spitfire or Mustang. It's a great addition, and I would be very sad if we didn't get it. Of course it won't be flyable on historical or semi-historical servers. The option of choosing not to fly it will always be there. And there's no other sim suitable for aerobatic flying what so ever because of lousy FM.

Several ppl have requested such an addition a long time ago, and I REALLY hope it will be in!

I really don't see the problem by adding it? Anyone has a good reason for it not to be added?

I think as Oleg said:

Quote:
Users will have what they requested playing IL-2 these years, what we already have in IL-2 and new modes that will come in Storm of War: The Battle of Britain for the first time in the world for flight sims.
I personally think he wants to bring an online competition mode of aerobatics into the game.
Therefore is the Su-26.
There are already aerobatic teams in Il-2 but a new and never been before mode would be such an aerobatics modus.
Maybe i am wrong but the pilot in the screenshots looks very similar to hungarian aerobatics pilot Peter Besenyei.

Maybe you think Airway is but to test the engine, modelling a separate plane is no way.
and also they wouldn´t have shown the pics of it, because it doesn´t belong to the game.

I agree, they wouldn't have shown it with the BOB screenies if it wasn't ging to be included in some way.

I trully Hope it gets in the final version. I would love to fly it. And yes Il-2 series was teh best prop planes acrobatic sim, so it makes sense to expand on tat directon too.
I Bet at least 50% of all squads have tried an acrobatic flight or stunt..

Besides it´s a grate plane to fly below London´s Bridge he?

Anyway, my favourite acrobatic team "Cruz del Sur" the Argentinian Airforce team flyes SU 29, sot for me its a great thril to be able to have th 26 in game and flyable.

Oh and maybe its tiome they didi support air racing too right?

It was done because of two reasons:

1. To provide people with a testbed aircraft, with which they could compare the real world aircraft with it's incarnation from the game. And thus to compare in-game FM with the ral life.
2. To provide virtual aerobatics groups with a workhorse.

Saqson, do you know if there will be the same wingtip smoke like we have now, or will this be improved? i´m thinking of smoke-pods with some colors to choose \:D

Yeah, with AK74M sticked to the cockpit side with buble gum and tape, firing THROUGH the prop blades. \:D

Seriously - the weapon loadout will be historical. \:\) But, the visual damage model will be same as in the other BoB aircraft. So, at least, you'll be able to kick it's arse. \:\)

I think the reason it is in the game - it is considered to be the best aerobatics plane in the world by many skillful pilots. Last time world champion Jurgis Kairys flies it as well as a 5 times world FAI champion among women Svetlana Kapanina.

Here are some links:
Su-31 is an improoved version of Su-26, and Su-29 is a 2-seat trainer.

http://owen2.otago.ac.nz/Owen/XuAir2006/Aerobatics.html
http://owen2.otago.ac.nz/Owen/XuAir2004/Su312004.html
Nice photos and info about Jurgis, Svetlana, Su-26 and Su-29.
http://planeimages.smugmug.com/gallery/1384052/1/65386509

Jurgis Kairys videos can be found here
http://www.aerobaticsaircraft.com/aerobatics-videos.php (Sukhoi section)
http://www.haute-voltige.com/inter/videos/videos.htm (3 last files)
Don't miss 'cobra' maneuvers on take-off and inverted flight under a bridge in Su-26.

And today's special! 62MB Sukhoi video with very nice Svetlana footage and more
http://www.aeropegasus.com/video/svetlana.avi

As many of us (as well as OM) believe IL-2/FB/BoB has the best FM why not to test the best aerobatics plane with the best simulator FM?
Probably this is the explanation.

BoB will be more open to 3rd party add-ons and I am sure we'll see more great aerobatics planes in it soon.

There is a huge potential for a hifi non violent flightsim, perhaps bigger then the BoB. If they manage to get the dynamic air movement correct so that it can be used as a trainer for gliders as well as motor airplanes it will be worth a few Euros.

I love this aspect for the new sim...eventually maybe a Pitts Special can be flown.

And as a provable test airframe for the sim - it make perfect sense to include the Sukoi.

Perhaps early gliders - such as were used by the fledgling Luftwaffe to train cadets could also one day be provided. Proper thermals and other wind related effects would make light plane handleing an adventure too...

I wonder... if GT sales of their new WWI mod are really positive - will they be liscensed to use the BoB core somewhere down the line?...? I know thats looking far ahead but...what can I say.

I'd like to see proper training missions and aircraft for each side. The Tiger Moth is obvious for the allies, Germany must have had something similar.
