I don't see it linked anywhere on the board:

Airplanes are now built to carry a pilot and a dog in the cockpit: the pilot's job is
to feed the dog, and the dog's job is to bite the pilot if he touches anything...

No, he wasn't to be honest.

That is pretty common with first interviews though. He has said he would get more specific as the release date gets closer.

He probably should do that. One thing he doesn't want to do is create a B17 II or WW2 ONline type of buildup only to have to pull features later on. If you think about it this was one of the major disappointments with both titles. Both promised the moon but gave us an asteroid instead.

He is hedging his bets right now, letting us know stuff is in the works but not telling too much.

"He is hedging his bets right now, letting us know stuff is in the works but not telling too much."

A good strategy especially with the die hard followers of the series.

One thing he made clear, folks better start putting money into an escrow account if they want a PC that can run the game. Any person that's purchased a PC recently or is planning to get one soon are going to be SOL when this new game hits the stores in like 2 years.

I wasn't being critical Tom, it was just an observation \:\)

Oleg: I think players should upgrade their PC after the release of Storm of War: The Battle of Britain, but not now. Minimum system would be probably like last year good system for IL-2 series.

What was a good system for IL2 last year? 6800GT and an AMD64 of some flavour or am I off the mark? I expect the same situation as IL2 and Perfect mode to be honest, we'll be able to run it but for the really pretty stuff you'll need the latest and greatest, I wasn't able to use perfect mode for a good while after it was available.

Dano.

Actually if you read carefully Oleg gives us quite a bit of information!

All I can say is that I'll be getting it

"You know, all ask for realism and then do not understand what we will pay for it."

That's the best line in the interview.

It should cut off some of the "why can't I get a decent frame rate with a thousand planes on my p4 3gig equipment" whines, but it won't.

I am looking forward to the next five or six years with this one.

It will be expensive to keep up with this hobby though, I am still getting to a level that will let me get all the IL2 series can offer.

It is good to be a WWII airplane junkie.

This made my day.
-------------------------------------------------
Tom: One of our readers stated that you mentioned that there is a possibility of human crewed ground guns or even vehicles. Is this actually planned for the game or is this just a function of the game engine that will allow for additions include ground combat?

Oleg: Can't answer 100% right now. But I can say 100% that we model the ground mechanics with the quality equal or better than in modern shooters.
------------------------------------------------

I could care less about driving vehicles and using AAA guns but having animated ground crew, starting, removing chocks, refuelling and rearming aircraft will increase the immersion 10 fold for me. I may be reading to much into ground mechanics but they gotta be doing something. \:D

Chivas, I'm probably wrong but when he said "ground mechanics" I think he ment how things move and operate as opposed to ground mechanics i.e aircraftsmen type bod's.

Yes Mowgali you could be right. My poor english and Olegs english leads to a poor translation. I know he mentioned that vehicles will have working suspensions, but that would be "vehicle mechanics".

I just hope he meant ground crew mechanics as in fitters and engine mechanics who were regularly assigned hardstand duties, parking, starting, refuelling, with armourers reloading aircraft. Also he use the phrase..as in modern shooters... which to me means people not vehicles, but I've been wrong before. \:\)

Chivas, I also understood animated ground crew; let's hope so. Likely a another FPS hit, but sure would add to the immersion.

I also doubt he meant ground crews to be modeled especially after he said the start up procedures wont be modeled. Why would he have ground crews running around if we're not going to go through the motions?

I was a little disapointed when he talked about the damage model. I was hoping for more stuff to be modeled like blowing up ammo belts in the wings of aircraft (fw190 perhaps). Guess we cant have it all, with all the improvements to the new sim it will be a blast to fly! Looking forward to it

Trust me, I did RB.

You should have seen it before. Some of my translations weren't quite correct so Oleg wanted it written a certain way. In that instance I just decided to leave it the way it was written, Olegish and all.

Why should the bandwidth and host's CPU power be taken by such a silly task and the flight activity be therefore penalised? Com'on let's be serious...

I love the man's work, but sheeeesh. It often sounds like he is typing through a free translation program. \:D

Anyway, nice interview.

Nobodies talking about on-line activities, this would be an option to increase immersion for off-liners. So com'on let's lighten up. \:D

In the "Thursday E3" report:

Quote:
The clouds have been improved immensely. They still look very similar, but now we will see full overcasts, moving weather fronts, and changes in cloud shapes and formations as time passes.

I also thought the textures for the clouds seemed improved nicely and take on a slightly more natural tone.

Along with the clouds we are going to see something I don't believe has ever been modeled in a simulation to date. Oleg showed us a short clip depicting the modeling of moving parcels of air.

Yeah you heard me correctly.

Small moving parcels of air (which normally would be invisible) were shown moving as a sea breeze towards the coastline. As they crossed the land mass, they began rising and changing direction. Some of the parcels fluttered slightly depicting thermals and turbulence at the cloud bases and where they formed.

And it will impact your flying.

I know some sims have done some rudimentary thermal modeling but nothing on this scale has been attempted.
(emphasis and spacing mine)

Dynamic weather with wind, including turbulence.

WooHoo! Somebody over there needs to work on the windsock object!
