Not a perfect transition, wrong windscreen/gunsight for example, but great to see the LOD.

Actually right gunsight...early models had that ironsight. Not modelled in FB tho.

Yeah, the early models did but I thought all BoB era Spits were using reflector sights in front line squadrons.

...most of the really early Spits used British designed gunsights, built by an Austrian company under license even AFTER Austria got annexed by Nazi Germany \:D
to some extent, the Germans contributed to their own defeat in the BoB later on \:\)

To those who have created cockpits in the past and so are knowledgable.

Do the renderings that are done in a 3D drawing package look better than the models once put into the actual game engine. i.e., will we see no/slightly/significantly less detail in game compared to these images?

I notice that the E3 screen of the German cockpit (which is in game) looks less detailed that the Spit cockpits (which are non in game).

Those are BOTH screenshots from the game engine.

Does anyone have a link to the pic(s) of a BF109 cockpit posted some time ago? Had an interesting off centre perspective, showing oxygen bottle etc.

here's a snap of the new JU-88 pit for those who missed it...

That's interesting. The blue in the windows looks just like the blue in the rendering shots. I thought they had just cropped out the yellow text that usually accompanies it.

The above renders look as detailed as the spit pit to me however when compared to the recently released 109 picture (see below) some of the detail appears to have been cut back, presumably an effort to reduce poly count, although it might just be an earlier less finished texture. Difficult to tell because of the dead centre perspective and flat lighting... (in particular compare the bolt heads on the canopy frame, and in the lower faceplate of the instrument panel)

awesome cockpit pictures. hopefully, the game will have specific detail sliders specificlaly for cockpit level of detail. Most games just have generic detail sliders for the whole game. For this game, it makes sense to add more detail options. if folks want hyper detail in their pits, give them the freedom. folks with normal PCs may want to scale back the pit detail but pump up plane exteriors. flexibility and scalability is the key to end user happiness.

after IL2's version, these canopy frames look really thin, don't they? \:\)

I'll second that vote for cockpit detail having adjustable levels plus one other thing.Just make sure its usable as far as framerates go for lower level computers. Its great If you have a computer thats hyped up as far as you can go,but speed costs lots of money.IL-2 had that problem when it first came out and so does Rowan's BOB,although to a lesser degree. You know how much I've used the newer version of BOB? All of about 3 hrs and I basically haven't touched it since.
Theres a message hear and its not hidden in the least.Have all the detail you want, for people who can use it,but If it isn't usable as far as flyability and framerates then a lot of people won't buy it.And that is what Storm of War can or won't take to the bank.Oleg are you listening?
Isn't that the purpose,making money?
Just being honest here, don't get me wrong, the realism is what its all about,or should I say immersion factor? I just don't want a slideshow.
Enough said, rant and rave If you want.
By the way I have a 2.8 Ghz with 1 Gb of RAM and a ATI 9800 pro video card.

That cockpit is terrific, and I hate to be a pain in the butt...however...that is a pre-war Spit cockpit. At the beginning of the war, the RAF began to replace those old ring and bead sights with reflector gunsights. Every photo I have of an RAF pilot sitting in either a Hurri or a Spit, shows a reflector gunsight in front of him.

The Spit cockpit does have the reflector sight in the screens without the photo.

Do they have all the screens that were posted here at SimHQ and have now been removed? No one seems to have downloaded the full set.

peoples republic of ocean beac...
i think the interesting thing here is not just the detail...but the view angle.

obviously head vector is not only supported but it looks like some of these may be viewed from outside the pit, as if one were standing on the wing root.

That's in 3DS Max... You could do that with any 3d game ever made. It's not in game, it's in the modeling program. You could zoom a mile away if you wanted.
